Lucha Underground on August 9, 2017 was a good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Dario Cueto, Worldwide Underground, Texano, Beautiful Brenda, Famous B, Catrina, Mil Muertes, and Jeremiah Crane earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it because since they have been on a long break, it’s good to refresh people’s minds heading into this show so I appreciated that. Well done and well produced.

The Rabbit Tribe Vs. Worldwide Underground for the Aztec Medallions was a good trios match. This was a fun trios match to see who will be in the seven way match for the Gift of the Gods Championship.

The interaction between The Rabbit Tribe and Taya was fun to watch and Saltador hit a nice dive over the top rope onto Taya and PJ Black as Jack Evans was messing around with his whiteboard at ringside. Good work from both trios here.

The ending of the match came when Paul London hit a shooting star press on Ricky Mandel for the pin and win. A nice win for The Rabbit Tribe as they’re going to be in the seven way match for the Gift of the Gods Championship.

Good trios match and I’m intrigued on how The Rabbit Tribe will do in the seven way match for the Gift of the Gods Championship.

The backstage segment with Worldwide Underground was good. Worldwide Underground was backstage with Johnny Mundo and their manager Benjamin Cooke. Benjamin Cooke was upset with Taya, PJ Black, and Ricky Mandel for losing and they would be gone from Worldwide Underground because of that, but thanks to Johnny Mundo, he’s allowing them to stay as long as they step up because he has a heart of gold.

Worldwide Underground better get some wins or else this faction will be out of commission. Let’s see who stays and who leaves in this faction if this keeps up. Good backstage segment here.

Jeremiah Crane Vs. Mil Muertes in a No Disqualification match in the quarter-finals of the Cueto Cup was excellent. Mark out moment! As Jeremiah Crane made his entrance, he got attacked from behind by Mil Muertes as they began to brawl on the stairs. It was then announced by Dario Cueto via Matt Striker and Vampiro that it will be a no disqualification match! Mark out moment! Dario Cueto is the man when he wants to be so this is awesome.

Jeremiah Crane did excellent in this match as he tried to get love from Catrina. His chair shots to Mil Muertes looked painful as heck and the way he got Mil Muertes’ neck stuck on the chair and hit it with another chair must have been lethal. His cannonball on Mil Muertes through a table was cool to see.

Mil Muertes did excellent in this match as well as he tried to get rid of Jeremiah Crane once and for all. His powerbomb on Jeremiah Crane on the ring apron and through the table looked painful as heck.

There was a certain spot in the match that was insane where Jeremiah Crane set up a table on the floor, but Mil Muertes hit a spear on Jeremiah Crane from the ring to the floor through the table! Mark out moment! That was an awesome spot. I love it. Excellent work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Mil Muertes hit a reverse STO on Jeremiah Crane for the pin and win. A great win for Mil Muertes as he moves on to the semi-finals of the Cueto Cup.

After the match, Catrina gave Jeremiah Crane a kiss as Jeremiah Crane smiled where Mil Muertes hit another reverse STO on Jeremiah Crane as they stood tall.

At least Jeremiah Crane got a kiss from Catrina. I have no idea if this feud will continue, but with Ivelisse joining in the mix once she recovers, this feud might reignite, but we’ll see.

Excellent no disqualification match and Mil Muertes moves on to the semi-finals of the Cueto Cup.

The backstage segment between Dario Cueto and Officer Winter was good. Dario Cueto was in his office as Officer Winter came in and introduced himself to Dario Cueto. Dario Cueto questioned why Officer Winter is here as he talked about how Cage murdered Councilman Delgado and he’s his replacement while on the hunt to arrest Cage. He then said he wasn’t upset because anyone that has a god on their body has issues. He then mentioned that the great war will come and everyone’s flesh will fry as he left the office as Dario Cueto grabbed his red bull figure and placed it against his head.

Surprised that Officer Winter didn’t came in to arrest Dario Cueto unless Officer Winter doesn’t know that Dario Cueto is a murderer. This storyline is very intriguing as they mention about the great war and they mentioned it a few times before so I’m interested to see how that will turn out. Hopefully, we’ll get more answers soon. Good backstage segment here.

Pentagon Dark Vs. Texano in the quarter-finals of the Cueto Cup was a good match. Famous B and Beautiful Brenda were at ringside mid-match as they were supporting Texano.

Texano hit a nice somersault dive on Pentagon Dark to the outside and his double knee facebreaker on Pentagon Dark when Pentagon Dark was on the middle rope was well executed. Pentagon Dark hit three well executed spinning sleeper slams and his double knee backbreaker on Texano from the top rope was cool to see. Good work from both men there.

The ending of the match came when Beautiful Brenda distracted the referee which led to Famous B sliding a horseshoe to Texano, but ended up going to Pentagon Dark as he used the horseshoe on Texano to get the pin and win. Intentional or not, it got Pentagon Dark the victory as he moves on to the semi-finals of the Cueto Cup to face Mil Muertes which should be a great match.

After the match, Pentagon Dark was about to break Texano’s arm, but Famous B came in to make the save for Texano. Pentagon Dark then hit a superkick on Famous B and then broke his arm afterwards. Pentagon Dark then left the ring and Beautiful Brenda went to check on Famous B. Pentagon Dark then went back into the ring and broke Beautiful Brenda’s arm as he stood tall in the end! Mark out moment!

Dang, I did not see that happening, but it shows that you don’t mess with Pentagon Dark no matter who you are. Will Pentagon Dark win the Cueto Cup? We’ll find out in about two weeks. Cero Miedo!

Good match and great post-match as Pentagon Dark moves on to the semi-finals of the Cueto Cup.

The video segment between Captain Vasquez and Catrina was great. An officer came in to Captain Vasquez’s office and told her Catrina is here to see her as Captain Vasquez let her in. Catrina then appeared right behind her as Catrina said that she thought they would never cross paths again as Captain Vasquez asked for Catrina’s help. She told Catrina that the gods are coming and Cage is one of those people that is trying to bring the gods back due to the gauntlet. Captain Vasquez then told Catrina that she gave life to Catrina due to the half of the medallion they share and told her that the only man that could get the gauntlet from Cage is Mil Muertes. If Catrina gets the gauntlet back to Captain Vasquez, she promised Catrina to give her the other half of the medallion where Catrina agreed and called Captain Vasquez her mother as she left.

Wait, Captain Vasquez is Catrina’s mother?! Okay, I didn’t see that coming at all. I knew they were connected in some way, but not in that way. That answered that question at least. It seems like we’re going to get a feud between Cage and Mil Muertes which should be fun as I have been waiting for a feud/match between these two. It should be great. Great video segment to end the show.

Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, the Cueto Cup continues which should be great, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
