NXT 8/23/17 Review: UK Takeovers

NXT on August 23, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with highlights of NXT Brooklyn III. This is good as it shows what happened on the show and it was a great show. If you haven’t already, watch the show, you won’t be disappointed.

The segment between No Way Jose and Lars Sullivan was good. No Way Jose originally was supposed to have a match and started to dance with the NXT Universe doing the congo line, but ended up getting attacked by Lars Sullivan from behind. Lars Sullivan beat up No Way Jose at ringside before rolling him into the ring as he hit a body avalanche on No Way Jose followed by an uranage as left the ring afterwards.

Lars Sullivan may not get luck in terms of getting tag team partners, but he is a dominant monster and he destroyed No Way Jose here. I expect between a match between these two down the road.

Good segment that made Lars Sullivan look like a beast that no one wants to mess with.

Just a reminder that No Fear by Phil Ade featuring Saba Abraha & Tate Kobang was a theme for NXT Brooklyn III and it’s a good song. If you haven’t already, please watch NXT Brooklyn III. It was a great show.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT Brooklyn III when Andrade “Cien” Almas beat Johnny Gargano. It was an excellent match so check it out if you haven’t already and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Johnny Gargano by Kayla Braxton earlier in the show was good. Johnny Gargano talked about how he has no excuses for his loss against Andrade “Cien” Almas at NXT Brooklyn III as it was his fault that he lost. He told himself that he needs to be better next time as a lot of people out there still believes in him and that was far from the end for Johnny Wrestling.

Even though Johnny Gargano lost a big match, he is moving forward, but I bet he still has Tommaso Ciampa in the back of his mind. We’ll see what’s next for Johnny Wrestling. Good backstage interview here.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT Brooklyn III when Asuka beat Ember Moon to retain her NXT Women’s Championship. It was an excellent match so if you haven’t already, please check out this match. Plus, this ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Asuka by the press gallery after her match against Ember Moon at NXT Brooklyn III was good. She said that she was not worried about losing at any point in the match as she left after the interview. It was then announced from WWE.com that Asuka suffered a broken right collarbone which will take her out of action for six to eight weeks as she stated on Twitter that she’ll be back like The Terminator.

A shame that Asuka is injured, but hopefully she will be back soon enough after her injury. Not only that, Ember Moon was very close of beating Asuka at NXT Brooklyn III so it’s only a matter of time when Asuka loses her belt to someone. Good backstage interview here.

The backstage interview with Pete Dunne and Wolfgang by Christy St. Cloud was good. Pete Dunne talked about how he won the WWE United Kingdom Championship at NXT Chicago and that was the beginning of the UK brand getting stronger and stronger. Wolfgang then said that he’s been waiting for an opportunity to get a title shot and wants it after their tag team match. Pete Dunne then told Wolfgang that he shouldn’t get ahead of himself as they should focus on their tag team match.

Oh my god, Pete Dunne and Wolfgang are on this show! However, I’ll talk about them later. I can sense that there will be a future feud and match between Pete Dunne and Wolfgang for the WWE United Kingdom Championship down the line so I’m looking forward to that when that happens, but until then, tag team action later. Good backstage interview here.

Sarah Logan Vs. Peyton Royce was a good women’s match. Sarah Logan is going to be in the Mae Young Classic which starts on Monday which I will be reviewing the Mae Young Classic so stay tuned for that.

Sarah Logan hit a nice release German suplex on Peyton Royce while Peyton Royce hit a beautifully executed spinning heel kick on Sarah Logan. Good work from both women here.

The ending of the match came when Peyton Royce hit a bridging fisherman suplex on Sarah Logan for the pin and win. Sarah Logan may have lost the match, but she looked good in defeat so she has nothing to be ashamed of. As for The Iconic Duo, they’re picking up wins which is good for them.

Good women’s match as I wish Sarah Logan luck on the Mae Young Classic and see what The Iconic Duo has plans for Ruby Riot when they meet each other again.

Just a reminder that Poison Pens by Creeper was a theme for NXT Brooklyn III and it’s a good song. If you haven’t already, please watch NXT Brooklyn III as it was a great show.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT Brooklyn III when SAnitY beat Authors of Pain to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions and reDRagon attacked both SAnitY and Authors of Pain after the match. This was a great tag team match if you haven’t seen it yet and I can’t wait to see the fallout of this.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT Brooklyn III when Drew McIntyre defeated Bobby Roode to become the new NXT Champion and Adam Cole and reDRagon attacked Drew McIntyre after the match. It was announced that next week Drew McIntyre will appear on NXT next week to address Adam Cole and reDRagon. This was an excellent match if you haven’t watched it yet and it also ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage segment between Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong by Christy St. Cloud after NXT Brooklyn III was good. Christy St. Cloud was trying to ask Bobby Roode some questions, but Bobby Roode refused to talk with Christy St. Cloud as he wanted to leave the building. He then see Roderick Strong in a suit as he blew a kiss to Bobby Roode as he said that he will see him soon as he left where Bobby Roode was pissed off.

Don’t blame Bobby Roode for being pissed off as he lost the NXT Championship and has to deal with Roderick Strong as well. Looking forward to the match between Roderick Strong and Bobby Roode when they crossed paths again. Good backstage segment here.

We then see a recap of what happened on SmackDown Live! as Bobby Roode made his debut for the brand which led to an interview earlier in the show as Kayla Braxton interviewed Bobby Roode about his debut on SmackDown Live! and if he is gone from NXT for now. Bobby Roode said that he never leaves unfinished business anywhere as he wants Roderick Strong and then he wants his rematch against Drew McIntyre. After that, he will make SmackDown Live! glorious.

Bobby Roode may be on SmackDown Live!, but he has some unfinished business with NXT as he wants Roderick Strong and Drew McIntyre. Looking forward to those matches before he becomes a part of the SmackDown Live! roster full-time. Good backstage interview here.

Just a reminder that Bleeding In The Blur by Code Orange was a theme for NXT Brooklyn III and it’s a good song. NXT Brooklyn III was great so check it out if you haven’t already.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT Brooklyn III when Aleister Black beat Hideo Itami. It was a great match so check it out if you haven’t already and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Aleister Black after his match against Hideo Itami at NXT Brooklyn III was great. Aleister Black was leaving the arena backstage as interviewers were trying to interview him, but he didn’t answer any questions as he just left without saying a word.

Actions speak louder than words and Aleister Black did just that here. I’m interested to see what NXT has next for Aleister Black. Great backstage interview here.

Moustache Mountain Vs. Pete Dunne & Wolfgang was a great tag team match. Moustache Mountain, Pete Dunne, and Wolfgang have made appearances on NXT! Mark out moment for all of them! Nice to see the UK division being represented here in this show as I’m still waiting for that weekly UK show on the WWE Network.

Moustache Mountain showed some great tag team wrestling as Trent Seven assisted Tyler Bate with a high-angle senton bomb which was cool to see. Pete Dunne working on Trent Seven’s arm was great in-ring psychology. Great work from both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Wolfgang hit a high-angle senton bomb on Tyler Bate for the pin and win for his team. Wolfgang got the pin on the former WWE United Kingdom Champion and looks to get a title shot at Pete Dunne’s WWE United Kingdom Championship. Should be a great match when it happens. *Howls*

Great tag team match and I hope to see more of the WWE UK wrestlers in NXT.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Drew McIntyre make an appearance which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
