Lucha Underground 8/30/17 Review: Biker’s Brawl

Lucha Underground on August 30, 2017 was a good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Matanza, Dario Cueto, Marty Martinez, Fenix, Melissa Santos, Joey Ryan, Cortez Castro, Son of Havoc, Son of Madness, and Johnny Mundo earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it because since they have been on a long break, it’s good to refresh people’s minds heading into this show so I appreciated that. Well done and well produced.

The video segment between Matanza and Dario Cueto was great. Matanza was in his prison cell until Dario Cueto came in and told Matanza that he was wrong about Rey Mysterio as Matanza wanted to protect him. He then told Matanza that Rey Mysterio humiliated him and in two weeks, it will be Rey Mysterio Vs. Matanza. He then told Matanza to destroy Rey Mysterio as Matanza became furious in his prison cell.

Dario Cueto is fueling fire into Matanza as he will face Rey Mysterio in two weeks. I have a feeling that Matanza will destroy Rey Mysterio when they face off and it’s going to be great. Great video segment here.

We then get an announcement from Matt Striker and Vampiro that in four weeks, Ultima Lucha Tres will happen and it will be four nights where Johnny Mundo Vs. Prince Puma for the Lucha Underground Championship takes place in the main event of night four of Ultima Lucha Tres. Awesome to see that we’re going to get four nights of Ultima Lucha Tres and the Lucha Underground Championship match should be amazing. Can’t wait for that.

Mascarita Sagrada Vs. Son of Madness was a good squash match. Mascarita Sagrada was wearing a leather vest from Son of Havoc so he was representing Son of Havoc in this match which made Son of Madness as he attacked him the moment the bell rang. Details like that can really add to a story so that was cool to see.

Mascarita Sagrada hit a nice tilt-a-whirl DDT on Son of Madness, but Son of Madness was too much for Mascarita Sagrada as he finished him off with a brainbuster for the pin and win. A win for Son of Madness as he got his first win in Lucha Underground.

After the match, he continued to assault Mascarita Sagrada until Son of Havoc made the save as the two began to brawl until security arrived as Paul London carried Mascarita Sagrada to the back. Dario Cueto then showed up and announced that Son of Havoc will face Son of Madness in the main event for an Aztec Medallion and it will be Biker’s Brawl! Mark out moment! This is why I love Dario Cueto because stuff like this. Looking forward to this match in the main event. Should be brutal.

Good match and good post-match as the Biker’s Brawl between Son of Havoc and Son of Madness should be brutal.

Argenis Vs. Marty Martinez was a good match. As Melissa Santos was doing the introductions for Marty Martinez, Marty Martinez was creeping out Melissa Santos as always as Mariposa was slapping Marty Martinez to pump him up. Marty Martinez will always and will forever be creepy. Anyway, back to the match itself.

Argenis hit a nice somersault dive on Marty Martinez to the outside and his hurricanrana from the bleachers to the floor on Marty Martinez was cool to see. Marty Martinez was being a great heel here by trying to take off the mask of Argenis and with Mariposa assisting him by making Argenis bled. Good work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Marty Martinez hit Argenis with a lifting double underhook transitioned into a Gory Special dropped into a double knee facebreaker for the pin and win. Marty Martinez got a win as he was sending a message to Fenix.

After the match, Marty Martinez took off the mask of Argenis and Mariposa took the mic from Melissa Santos and gave it to Marty Martinez. Marty Martinez was creeping out Melissa Santos once again and threw Argenis’ mask at her as he wants Fenix’s mask at Ultima Lucha Tres to show how ugly he is.

This led to Fenix coming to the ring as he took out Marty Martinez and Mariposa with superkicks as Melissa Santos joined him in the ring afterwards. Melissa Santos then told Marty Martinez that he can’t take Fenix’s mask off as Fenix accepted the match and challenged Marty Martinez to a Mask Vs. Hair match at Ultima Lucha Tres! Mark out moment! The stakes got even higher for Ultima Lucha Tres as one of these men will lose their identity at Ultima Lucha Tres. Should be a great match. Animal!

Good match and great post-match as I’m looking forward to Fenix Vs. Marty Martinez in a Mask Vs. Hair match at Ultima Lucha Tres.

Sexy Star Vs. Joey Ryan was a good match. Joey Ryan was being disgusting as always with his lollipop and all and Taya was out at ringside holding a sign saying, “Go Sexy Star” as those two have issues with each other as of late.

Sexy Star did a nice tribute to Eddie Guerrero with the three vertical suplexes on Joey Ryan and her running seated senton on Taya from the ring apron to the outside was cool to see. Good work from both competitors here.

The ending of the match came when Joey Ryan hit a superkick on Sexy Star for the pin and win. A big win for Joey Ryan here as he got a victory over a former Lucha Underground Champion. A nice victory for him.

After the match, Joey Ryan was about to put a lollipop on Sexy Star’s mouth, but Cortez Castro arrived with a kendo stick and attacked him with it until Joey Ryan retreated. This feud between Cortez Castro and Joey Ryan has been building up for a while now and it will only be a matter of time when they face off one on one. Will it be at Ultima Lucha Tres? We will see.

Good match and good post-match as I can’t wait to see Cortez Castro and Joey Ryan go head to head.

The backstage segment between Dario Cueto and Cortez Castro was good. Dario Cueto was in his office until Cortez Castro came in with a kendo stick. Dario Cueto told Cortez Castro that he impressed him as Cortez Castro was about to hit Dario Cueto with a kendo stick after what Dario Cueto did to Mr. Cisco. Cortez Castro was about to Dario Cueto, but he told Cortez Castro that he will have a match next week against Joey Ryan in a 5-0 Street Fight where the winner will get an Aztec medallion. Cortez Castro agreed to it as he broke the kendo stick in front of Dario Cueto’s face as he left.

Surprised that Cortez Castro didn’t destroy Dario Cueto there, but he has a chance to prove himself next week in a 5-0 Street Fight against Joey Ryan. Should be an interesting match when it happens. Good backstage segment here.

Son of Havoc Vs. Son of Madness in a Biker’s Brawl for the Aztec medallion was excellent. Mark out moment! After these two having issues with each other for the past few months, it led to this match and it was a brutal match where both men wanted to kill each other.

Son of Madness did excellent in this match as he tried to make Son of Havoc learn to not mess with the club. His diving double foot stomp from the ring to the floor on Son of Havoc was impressive. His brainbuster on Son of Havoc looked devastating and his Death Valley Driver on Son of Havoc on top of the trash can looked extremely painful. Excellent work from Son of Madness here.

Son of Havoc did excellent in this match as well as he tried to get his colors back from Son of Madness. His diving double foot stomp from the crowd to the floor on Son of Madness looked painful as heck as Son of Madness had the marks of Son of Havoc’s boots on his back. His bouncing to the ropes into a cutter on Son of Madness was well executed. Excellent work from Son of Havoc here.

The ending of the match came when Son of Havoc hit Son of Madness with a beer bottle as Son of Madness was about to hit Son of Havoc with a hammer followed by a shooting star press on Son of Madness for the pin and win. A great win for Son of Havoc as he got an Aztec medallion and got his colors back at the same time.

Excellent Biker’s Brawl as Son of Havoc will be in the Gift of the Gods Championship match.

Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have Cortez Castro Vs. Joey Ryan in a 5-0 Street Fight which should be great, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
