NXT 8/30/17 Review: End of Heartache to a Glorious One

NXT on August 30, 2017 was a great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a segment outside of the Full Sail Arena in the parking lot as we see SAnitY and security being taken out while we saw three mysterious figures walking away from the scene. William Regal then came out to see what happened and was furious.

I have a feeling those three men were Adam Cole and reDRagon as they were the ones who probably took out SAnitY and the security guards. Will be interesting to see how William Regal will react to this once he figured out it was probably Adam Cole and reDRagon, but we’ll see. Good segment to start off the show.

The promo segment between Drew McIntyre and Roderick Strong was good. Drew McIntyre came out to the ring and talked about how he’s happy that he is the NXT Champion, but doesn’t like what happened after the match when Adam Cole and reDRagon attacked him at NXT Brooklyn III. He then said if anyone wants a shot at his championship, then come and fight him for it.

This led to Roderick Strong coming out as he told Drew McIntyre that he wanted to congratulate him for winning the NXT Championship as he became a new target for him. He then told Drew McIntyre that after he beat Bobby Roode, he wants a match against him for the NXT Championship as Drew McIntyre said that Roderick Strong is not ready for him as he left.

It seems like we’re going to have a potential feud and match between Drew McIntyre and Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship down the line. However, I have a feeling that Adam Cole will play a role in this feud too as the time comes.

Good promo segment as I’m looking forward to the potential feud and match between Drew McIntyre and Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Bobby Roode was being interviewed by Kayla Braxton as he said that he has unfinished business with Roderick Strong and Drew McIntyre. Bobby Roode has some things to do in NXT before he’s officially a part of the SmackDown Live! brand. Let’s see if he can beat Roderick Strong and Drew McIntyre before he leaves. Glorious!

We then see a tweet from Asuka as she talked about her condition as she suffered a collar bone injury in her match against Ember Moon. It was then announced that next week, Asuka will make her return to NXT to talk about her future in NXT. I have a feeling that Asuka will probably be stripped from the NXT Championship, but we’ll see.

Ruby Riot Vs. Peyton Royce was a great women’s match. We get a recap of what happened three weeks ago when Ruby Riot beat Billie Kay and Peyton Royce saying that Ruby Riot will never be iconic after the match. After what happened between these three women here, it made sense for this match to happen.

Ruby Riot had a nice counter to Peyton Royce’s spinning heel kick into a powerbomb so that was nice. Her suicide dive on The Iconic Duo was well executed. Peyton Royce’s rolling Death Valley Driver on Ruby Riot looked cool. Great work from both women here.

The ending of the match came when Peyton Royce distracted the referee by pulling the ring apron as Billie Kay hit a big boot on Ruby Riot where Peyton Royce took advantage and hit a bridging fisherman suplex on Ruby Riot for the pin and win. It may be a cheap victory, but a victory for The Iconic Duo nonetheless. I have a feeling this feud will continue between these three with Ruby Riot finding a partner, but we’ll see.

Great women’s match and I want to see who Ruby Riot will get as a partner to face off against The Iconic Duo with her.

The backstage segment between William Regal and Kassius Ohno with Christy St. Cloud was good. Christy St. Cloud asked William Regal about the attack of SAnitY and before William Regal was about to answer, Kassius Ohno came in and told William Regal that he is healthy now and wants to fight Hideo Itami. William Regal told Kassius Ohno that it will happen next week where Kassius Ohno requested a No Disqualification match in which William Regal accepted as Kassius Ohno thanked William Regal as he left.

So we’re going to get Kassius Ohno Vs. Hideo Itami in a No Disqualification match next week. Should be a great match when it happens next week and I’m looking forward to it. Good backstage segment here.

We then see Roderick Strong warming up backstage as he’s getting ready for his match against Bobby Roode. Roderick Strong looked focused, but can he beat “The Glorious One”? We’ll find out soon enough.

We then get a vignette of Heavy Machinery as they will be in action next. Nice to see that Heavy Machinery are still being focused on NXT so let’s get to their match!

Heavy Machinery Vs. Damien Aweel & Edwin Negron was a good tag team squash match. Great to see Heavy Machinery back in action as it felt like I haven’t seen them in quite a while so that was nice.

Heavy Machinery completely got the better of Damien Aweel & Edwin Negron as Heavy Machinery hit Edwin Negron with The Compactor (Piggyback falling powerslam) on top of Damien Aweel for the pin and win. It’s only a matter of time when Heavy Machinery gets another shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships. Shake and weights!

Good tag team squash match and I want to see more of Heavy Machinery.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Lars Sullivan attacked No Way Jose. This is good as it shows what happened last week and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage segment between Lars Sullivan and William Regal was good. Lars Sullivan was with William Regal in his office as he was smiling after what he did to No Way Jose last week. William Regal then told Lars Sullivan that he will punish for his actions as he will face three men next week in a handicap match as Lars Sullivan left with a grin on his face.

I don’t think having three men going against Lars Sullivan will do anything as Lars Sullivan will probably destroy those three men, but we’ll see. Good backstage segment here.

We then see Bobby Roode warming up backstage as he’s getting ready for his match against Roderick Strong. Bobby Roode has some unfinished business with Roderick Strong so let’s see if he can get the job done.

It was announced that next week, it will be Cezar Bononi Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas and Kassius Ohno Vs. Hideo Itami in a No Disqualification match. Next week’s show looks to be stacked. Looking forward to it.

Roderick Strong Vs. Bobby Roode was an excellent match. Mark out moment! These two men have issues with each other for the past few months and it all led to this match where both men gave everything they have.

Bobby Roode did excellent in this match to show Roderick Strong that he shouldn’t mess with him. His trash talking to Roderick Strong throughout the match was great as he got himself some great heel heat because of that. His fireman’s carry into a stunner on Roderick Strong was cool to see. Not only that, he hit a perfect Glorious DDT (Lifting DDT) on Roderick Strong. Excellent work from Bobby Roode here.

Roderick Strong did excellent in this match as well as he tried to make Bobby Roode pay for what he said to his family. His pop up double knee gutbuster on Bobby Roode was very innovative. His superplex and his jumping knee strikes on Bobby Roode looked devastating. Not only that, as always, his backbreakers on Bobby Roode looked painful as heck. Excellent work from Roderick Strong here.

The ending of the match came when he hit Bobby Roode with a vertical suplex into a double knee backbreaker on Bobby Roode, picked him up afterwards, blew a kiss at him before hitting another vertical suplex into a double knee backbreaker on Bobby Roode for the pin and win. A great win for Roderick Strong as he defeated a former NXT Champion and got to get revenge on his family. He has his eyes set on the NXT Championship after his win over Bobby Roode.

After the match, Drew McIntyre came out on the stage as he raised the NXT Championship and nodding his head in approval to Roderick Strong. He then got attacked by Adam Cole and reDRagon from behind as Adam Cole hit a DDT on Drew McIntyre as security tried to stop them, but Adam Cole and reDRagon took them out.

William Regal and more security came in as Adam Cole and reDRagon made their escape as Adam Cole said that NXT belongs to them as they head to the back. William Regal then tried to follow them, but they made their escape as William Regal looked pissed.

Adam Cole and reDRagon continued to make their mark in NXT as they look to takeover. I have a feeling we’re going to have a three way match for the NXT Championship between Drew McIntyre, Roderick Strong, and Adam Cole in the future, but we’ll see. Adam Cole Bay Bay!

Excellent match and great post-match as I’m looking forward to the potential match and feud between Drew McIntyre, Roderick Strong, and Adam Cole.

Overall, great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Asuka making an appearance, Kassius Ohno Vs. Hideo Itami in a No Disqualification match, Lars Sullivan going against three men in a handicap match, and Cezar Bononi Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
