Lucha Underground 9/6/17 Review: Career At Stake at Ultima Lucha Tres

Lucha Underground on September 6, 2017 was a good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Prince Puma, Pentagon Dark, Worldwide Underground, The Rabbit Tribe, Johnny Mundo, Rey Mysterio, Dario Cueto, and Matanza earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it because since they have been on a long break, it’s good to refresh people’s minds heading into this show so I appreciated that. Well done and well produced.

The Mack Vs. Drago for the Aztec medallion was a good match. Kobra Moon was at ringside accompanying Drago for this match.

The Mack showed a lot of personality in this match especially when he did the middle finger to Drago which was nice to see. Drago hit a nice looking Tornado DDT on The Mack. Good work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Kobra Moon distracted The Mack which led to Drago taking advantage by rolling up The Mack with a flying headscissors transitioned into a rolling crucifix hold for the pin and win. A good win for Drago as he joins The Rabbit Tribe and Son of Havoc in the Gift of the Gods Championship match.

After the match, The Mack hit Drago with a stunner and was about to hit Kobra Moon with a stunner, but the rest of The Reptile Tribe came in and took out The Mack as they stood tall over him.

I have a feeling we’re going to have a future trios title match between The Mack and two partners of his against The Reptile Tribe after what happened here. Who will be The Mack’s partners? I guess we’ll find out soon enough as I have a feeling this match will happen at Ultima Lucha Tres.

Good match and good post-match as I’m intrigued if they’re going to do The Mack and his two partners Vs. The Reptile Tribe for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships at Ultima Lucha Tres.

The promo segment between Dario Cueto and Rey Mysterio was good. Dario Cueto was in the ring as he announced that next week will be the one-hundredth episode of Lucha Underground where it will be Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Pentagon Dark for an Aztec medallion, Prince Puma and partners of his choosing Vs. Worldwide Underground, and Rey Mysterio Vs. Matanza.

He then called out Rey Mysterio as Rey Mysterio made his way to the ring. He told Rey Mysterio to leave the building so Matanza can face The Rabbit Tribe later on the show with no interference. Rey Mysterio told Dario Cueto that he won’t leave as Dario Cueto told Rey Mysterio that if he doesn’t leave, he will fire Dragon Azteca Jr. as Rey Mysterio agreed to it. He then promised Dario Cueto that he will end the Cueto legacy next week and after he’s done with Matanza, he’s next as he left.

Even though I think the match between Rey Mysterio Vs. Matanza should be at Ultima Lucha Tres, I have a feeling something will happen in that match for the feud to continue, but we’ll see. Should be a great match next week.

Good promo segment as I’m looking forward to Rey Mysterio Vs. Matanza next week.

Cortez Castro Vs. Joey Ryan in a 5-0 Street Fight for the Aztec medallion was excellent. Mark out moment! After these two have issues with each other for months, it led to this match and they delivered where it’s probably their best match in Lucha Underground in both of their careers.

Joey Ryan did excellent in this match in order to try to humiliate Cortez Castro. The way he busted Cortez Castro’s head with handcuffs looked brutal. His fall forward lifting side slam on Cortez Castro on the police car looked painful as heck. His superkick on Cortez Castro with the doughnuts was unique. Excellent work from Joey Ryan here.

Cortez Castro did excellent in this match as well to get revenge on Joey Ryan on everything he has done to him. The way he hurt Joey Ryan by pouring hot coffee and using a taser on Joey Ryan’s penis must have hurt a lot. His suplex on Joey Ryan from the commentary table to the floor looked painful as well. Excellent work from Cortez Castro here.

The ending of the match came when Cortez Castro hit Joey Ryan with a running Michinoku Driver on the pile of riot shields for the pin and win. A great win for Cortez Castro as he will be in the Gift of the Gods Championship match with The Rabbit Tribe, Son of Havoc, and Drago.

Excellent 5-0 Street Fight as Cortez Castro will be in the Gift of the Gods Championship match.

The Rabbit Tribe Vs. Matanza in a handicap match was good. With Dario Cueto announcing this match earlier in the show, it led to this match as The Rabbit Tribe tried to take down “The Monster” Matanza.

The Rabbit Tribe had some nice chemistry with each other as they did a lot of dropkicks and superkicks to Matanza to take him down and Paul London hit a beautiful shooting star press on Matanza, but it wasn’t enough to take down the monster. Matanza showed his strength and brutality as he hit a nice running front dropkick on The Rabbit Tribe and hit a nice superplex on Paul London. Good work from all four men here.

The ending of the match came when Matanza hit Wrath of the Gods (Reverse-spin scoop powerslam) on Saltador for the pin and win. A good win for Matanza as he’s looking ready for Rey Mysterio next week which should be a great match.

Good handicap match as I can’t wait for next week as Rey Mysterio will take on Matanza.

The promo segment between Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo was great. Prince Puma was in the ring as he talked about his eight man tag team match next week and he was about to announce his partners until Johnny Mundo interrupted him and told him that he doesn’t care about his partners because he will take Prince Puma to Slamtown at Ultima Lucha Tres. They then talked about their history with each other and Johnny Mundo asked if Prince Puma can beat him as Prince Puma said he can beat him. Johnny Mundo then told Prince Puma that he should give something on the line as he wants Title Vs. Mask as Prince Puma accepted the match.

Dario Cueto then came out of his office and told Johnny Mundo that he liked the idea, but they already have a mask match at Ultima Lucha Tres. He then proposed a Title Vs. Career match as Vampiro was telling him no on the commentary table. Prince Puma then hit Johnny Mundo with a high knee, grabbed the Lucha Underground Championship in his hand and told Johnny Mundo that he accepted the match.

So the Lucha Underground Championship match at Ultima Lucha Tres will have a lot at stake here. If Prince Puma loses, he leaves Lucha Underground. I wonder if Prince Puma will be able to win the Lucha Underground Championship from Johnny Mundo. I guess we’ll find out at Ultima Lucha Tres.

Great promo segment as I’m looking forward to Prince Puma Vs. Johnny Mundo in a Title Vs. Career match for the Lucha Underground at Ultima Lucha Tres.

Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Pentagon Dark, Prince Puma and three partners of his choosing Vs. Worldwide Underground, and Rey Mysterio Vs. Matanza which should be great, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
