Lucha Underground 9/20/17 Review: Stakes are High at Ultima Lucha Tres

Published

on

Lucha Underground on September 20, 2017 was a great show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between The Rabbit Tribe, Son of Havoc, Drago, Cortez Castro, Pentagon Dark, Texano, Famous B, Marty Martinez, and Fenix earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it because since they have been on a long break, it’s good to refresh people’s minds heading into this show so I appreciated that. Well done and well produced.

The video segment between Melissa Santos and Fenix was good. Melissa Santos and Fenix were training in the temple as they were getting ready for their mixed tag team match. After they were done with their training, Melissa Santos wanted to see Fenix without his mask, but Fenix refused as he told her that his mask meant everything to him and without it, he will lose everything. Melissa Santos then promised Fenix that she won’t let it happen as she gave a kiss to Fenix.

Some high stakes with Fenix and Marty Martinez at Ultima Lucha Tres with Mask Vs. Hair. Till then, Fenix has to make sure that Melissa Santos is safe from their mixed tag team match against Marty Martinez and Mariposa. Good video segment here.

Texano Vs. Dante Fox was a good match. Famous B was the ring announcer for this show as Melissa Santos is going to have a match later on and Famous B did well for himself especially with his introduction to Texano. He even tried to aid Texano to the ring, but Texano refused. Killshot was also watching the match from above. Anyway, back to the match itself.

Texano hit some devastating clotheslines on Dante Fox. Dante Fox hit a nice combination on Texano with the back springboard cutter followed by a 450 splash. Good work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Texano hit a double underhook backbreaker on Dante Fox for a two count, but Famous B declared Texano the winner which distracted Texano as Dante Fox rolled up Texano with a schoolboy for the pin and win. A good win for Dante Fox as he took advantage of the opportunity given to him as he’s getting ready for his match against Killshot at Ultima Lucha Tres.

After the match, Famous B tried to apologize to Texano, but Texano tried to attack Famous B instead. Before he could though, Dario Cueto came out from his office and told Texano to not hurt Famous B as he needed him for being a ring announcer. However, at Ultima Lucha Tres next week, it will be Texano Vs. Famous B. Famous B told Dario Cueto that he has a broken arm as Dario Cueto said it would be a handicap match if that was the case. Dario Cueto then said that if Famous B wins, Texano will be joining Infamous Inc.

So another match for Ultima Lucha Tres has been announced where it will be Texano Vs. Famous B and if Famous B wins, Texano will join his corporation. I don’t think Famous B has a chance to beat Texano, but I bet he will find a way to do so. Call 423-GET-FAME so you can be famous!

Good match and good post-match as I’m looking forward to Texano Vs. Famous B at Ultima Lucha Tres.

The backstage segment between Son of Havoc, Dario Cueto, and Pentagon Dark was good. Son of Havoc was in Dario Cueto’s office as he put the Aztec medallion on the Gift of the Gods Championship as Dario Cueto wished Son of Havoc luck. Son of Havoc then told Dario Cueto that he wins the championship, he’s going to be in the main event of Ultima Lucha Tres. Dario Cueto then told Son of Havoc good luck.

As Son of Havoc was about to leave, Pentagon Dark came in as the two stared at each other where Dario Cueto told them to save the fighting for later as Son of Havoc left. Pentagon Dark then put the Aztec medallion on the Gift of the Gods Championship as he told Dario Cueto that he will break everyone’s arm that gets in his way as he left which led to Dario Cueto calling the medics if people get hurt.

It seems like either Son of Havoc or Pentagon Dark will be winning the Gift of the Gods Championship which makes sense as both men are capable of being a future Lucha Underground Champion. Let’s see who will win the Gift of the Gods Championship. Good backstage segment here.

Fenix & Melissa Santos Vs. Marty Martinez & Mariposa was a great mixed tag team match. After being creeped out by Marty Martinez for more than a year, it’s time for Melissa Santos to fight back with Fenix on her side to take on Marty Martinez and Mariposa. This match was a lot of fun to watch and Melissa Santos showed some athletic ability which was impressive.

Marty Martinez & Mariposa did their parts well by isolating Fenix at every point possible. The teamwork that Fenix and Melissa Santos did was impressive as Melissa Santos surprised me here where they did a double superkick on Marty Martinez and they did some nice teamwork with the assisted fist drop and leg drop. Great work from both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Mariposa tied Fenix’s hand to the rope as Marty Martinez and Mariposa hit a double underhook facebuster/wheelbarrow facebuster combination on Melissa Santos for the pin and win. Marty Martinez and Mariposa got the win here as Marty Martinez is set to face Fenix at Ultima Lucha Tres with Mask Vs. Hair.

After the match, Marty Martinez and Mariposa continue to assault Melissa Santos to the point where Marty Martinez was about to cut Melissa Santos’ hair. Before that could happen, Fenix broke free as Marty Martinez and Mariposa while he saved Melissa Santos from further harm.

The feud between these two just got a lot more personal here and I love it. I can’t wait for the match between these two at Ultima Lucha Tres as they are going to kill each other. I can’t wait.

Great mixed tag team match and great post-match as I’m looking forward to Fenix Vs. Marty Martinez in a Mask Vs. Hair match at Ultima Lucha Tres.

We then get an announcement from Matt Striker and Vampiro that Ultima Lucha Tres starts next week and it will have a span of four weeks as they went down the card. At Ultima Lucha Tres, it will be Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Matanza in a steel cage match, Ivelisse Vs. Catrina, Fenix Vs. Marty Martinez in a Mask Vs. Hair match, Sexy Star Vs. Taya in a Last Luchadora Standing match, Dante Fox Vs. Killshot in a Hell of War match, and Johnny Mundo Vs. Prince Puma for the Lucha Underground Championship in a Career Vs. Title match.

Man, I have to say that looks like a great card for Ultima Lucha Tres and I don’t think that’s all of them either so I can’t wait for these shows and it starts next week.

Paul London Vs. Mala Suerte Vs. Saltador Vs. Cortez Castro Vs. Drago Vs. Son of Havoc Vs. Pentagon Dark for the Gift of the Gods Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Usually, these types of matches that Lucha Underground usually do with the Gift of the Gods Championship are fun and this one was no different as everyone got a chance to shine.

The stars in this match were Son of Havoc and Pentagon Dark as those two were the main focus of this match as they were the ones that got the most control. Excellent work from all of the men here.

The ending of the match came when Son of Havoc hit a shooting star press on Saltador and Pentagon Dark hit a package piledriver on Paul London for the pins and wins. However, only one man can win so this was a problem which led to something to fix that problem.

After the match, Dario Cueto came out from his office and saw that both Son of Havoc and Pentagon Dark pin their opponents at the same time, but only one can become champion. He then said at Ultima Lucha Tres, it will be Son of Havoc Vs. Pentagon Dark for the Gift of the Gods Championship in a ladder match! Mark out moment! This is why Dario Cueto is the man, giving us some awesome matches heading into Ultima Lucha Tres which looks to be awesome. That match should be awesome and I can’t wait.

Excellent match and great post-match as I’m looking forward to Son of Havoc Vs. Pentagon Dark at Ultima Lucha Tres in a ladder match for the Gift of the Gods Championship.

The video segment between Dario Cueto and Officer Winter was good. Dario Cueto met with Officer Winter outside the temple in a limo as he told Officer Winter that he has the gauntlet with him. Officer Winter questioned Dario Cueto on why he didn’t let Cage keep the gauntlet as Dario Cueto said that Cage may not be the person to work with Officer Winter’s boss. Dario Cueto then told Officer Winter that Mil Muertes or Jeremiah Crane could be useful to Officer Winter’s boss as it will be Cage Vs. Jeremiah Crane Vs. Mil Muertes for the gauntlet. Officer Winter then questioned Dario Cueto on what happens if Cage wins as Dario Cueto responded by saying that Cage is the rightful owner of the gauntlet. The boss of Officer Winter then smoke a cigarette while nodding his head in approval as the match is official.

Ultima Lucha Tres just got a lot more interesting with Cage Vs. Jeremiah Crane Vs. Mil Muertes for the gauntlet and I question who the boss of Officer Winter is. I can’t wait to see who it is and the match at Ultima Lucha Tres. Good video segment to end the show.

Overall, great show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have the first week of Ultima Lucha Tres which should be great, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
