NXT 9/27/17 Review: The Undisputed Era

NXT on September 27, 2017 was a great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a backstage promo from William Regal and it was good. William Regal was backstage as he made an announcement that at NXT Houston, there will a fatal four-way match for the NXT Women’s Championship and one of those participants is the winner of the Mae Young Classic, Kairi Sane. The rest of the spots will be filled in the next coming weeks in a series of matches.

Great to hear that we have a NXT Women’s Championship match planned for NXT Houston. I’m interested to see who will join Kairi Sane in the NXT Women’s Championship match. My guesses are Ember Moon, Nikki Cross, and Ruby Riot, but we’ll see. Good backstage promo here.

The promo segment from SAnitY was good. SAnitY came into the ring from the crowd as Eric Young got on the mic and said that SAnitY are the ones that wrote the book about chaos. Now, they are planning to bring that chaos to Undisputed Era and Adam Cole will be brought to the edge of SAnitY.

Eric Young means business here as he looks to take down Adam Cole later on the show. Will Eric Young be able to defeat Adam Cole in his NXT in-ring debut? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Good promo segment as I’m looking forward to Eric Young Vs. Adam Cole later on the show.

Oney Lorcan Vs. Lars Sullivan was a great match. After Lars Sullivan made his entrance to the ring, we get a backstage interview with Oney Lorcan by Christy St. Cloud as Christy St. Cloud asked Oney Lorcan about how he will prepare for his match against Oney Lorcan where Oney Lorcan said that he doesn’t like Lars Sullivan because of what he did to guys like No way Jose. He then said that if Lars Sullivan wants to do that with someone, it should be him as he’s ready to fight as he made his entrance to the ring. Nice to see Oney Lorcan getting some mic time. Anyway, back to the match itself.

Oney Lorcan hit Lars Sullivan with some vicious slaps and European Uppercuts. The way Lars Sullivan countered Oney Lorcan’s over the top rope dive and slammed him face first on the ring apron was impressive. His clothesline on Oney Lorcan looked devastating. Great work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Lars Sullivan hit a waist-lift side slam on Oney Lorcan for the pin and win. Another win for Lars Sullivan as he continues to make a name for himself in NXT.

After the match, Lars Sullivan was about to hit Oney Lorcan with another waist-lift side slam, but Danny Burch then ran in and told Lars Sullivan to put him down as Danny Burch pulled Oney Lorcan out of the ring and carried him to the back.

It seems like Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch might be a tag team after this which I don’t mind seeing as it will give something for both men to do so I’m okay with that.

Great match and good post-match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Lars Sullivan, Danny Burch, and Oney Lorcan in NXT.

The backstage interview with Ruby Riot by Kayla Braxton was good. Ruby Riot talked about how Nikki Cross is not a friend and she doesn’t even know why Nikki Cross helped her against The Iconic Duo. She then talked about how she would love to fight The Iconic Duo again, but if Nikki Cross shows up, she better get out of her way.

I like how Ruby Riot is still acknowledging the history between her and Nikki Cross in the past. I wonder if we’ll get them to feud with each other again down the line. We’ll have to wait and see. Good backstage segment here.

Heavy Machinery Vs. Demitrius Bronson & Patrick Scott was a good tag team squash match. Heavy Machinery continued their dominance here as they are looking to become future NXT Tag Team Champions.

Otis Dozovic hit an impressive looking belly-to-belly suplex on Demitrius Bronson and Heavy Machinery finished the match with The Compactor (Piggyback falling powerslam) on Patrick Scott on top of Demitrius Bronson for the pin and win. It’s only a matter of time before Heavy Machinery get another chance at the NXT Tag Team Championships. Shake and weights!

Good tag team squash match and I can’t wait to see more development of Heavy Machinery in NXT.

The segment between William Regal and Johnny Gargano outside of the Performance Center was good. William Regal was being interviewed outside of the Performance Center as Johnny Gargano was about to make his leave until William Regal called him and told Johnny Gargano that he will get his rematch with Andrade “Cien” Almas in two weeks. Johnny Gargano then thanked William Regal as he left with William Regal saying to the reporters that he has something special coming up.

So we’re going to get Johnny Gargano Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas in two weeks. Awesome. Looking forward to that. Also, I wonder what surprise that William Regal has in store. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Good segment here.

The interview with Roderick Strong by Christy St. Cloud from the Performance Center was good. Roderick Strong talked about how his NXT Championship match next week against Drew McIntyre. He said that he’s a man that keeps getting back up and keeps moving forward as he battled for this opportunity for his whole entire life. He then said he’s indestructible and Drew McIntyre doesn’t have the tenacity to beat him. He then said that he’s going to give Drew McIntyre everything he has so he can become the next NXT Champion.

Some strong words from Roderick Strong there as he’s looking to become NXT Champion next week. We’ll see if Roderick Strong will be able to defeat Drew McIntyre next week for the NXT Championship. Good interview here.

Liv Morgan Vs. Vanessa Borne was a good women’s match. Man, we haven’t seen Liv Morgan in NXT in a while so it’s great to see her back and she has a new look too. She even got a video promo while making her entrance as she said that when Asuka relinquished her NXT Women’s Championship, everyone has been training harder than ever before while she keeps being herself as she looks to become the NXT Women’s Champion.

We also got a video promo from Vanessa Borne as she made her entrance where she said that people are here to see her as she’s looking to make history once again by becoming NXT Women’s Champion. Nice to see some promos from two upcoming women’s wrestlers in NXT as they’re looking to become NXT Women’s Champion. Let’s talk about the match itself.

Vanessa Borne got some nice offense in this match, but Liv Morgan was the one that was being showcased here as she hit Vanessa Borne with a leaping double knee facebreaker for the pin and win. A good win for Liv Morgan as she looks to be in the fatal four-way match for the NXT Women’s Championship.

Good women’s match and we’ll see if Liv Morgan will get a shot at being in the fatal four-way match for the NXT Women’s Championship.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Aleister Black was cutting a promo in the ring before getting interrupted by Velveteen Dream as Aleister Black knocked off the mic from Velveteen Dream’s hand with the spin kick as Aleister Black and Velveteen Dream had a staredown. This is good as it shows what happened last week and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The interview with Aleister Black in the Performance Center was good. Aleister Black was training in the Performance Center until an interviewer came in and interviewed Aleister Black about Velveteen Dream. Aleister Black said that there’s always one who thinks that they’re unique and more special than the rest. However, he refused to acknowledge a child that throws a tantrum to get attention and being bizarre won’t be enough to get his attention.

Velveteen Dream may got in the way of Aleister Black, but Aleister Black is not paying any attention to Velveteen Dream. It will be interesting to see how Velveteen Dream will get Aleister Black. Good interview here.

We then get a vignette about Fabian Aichner and it was good. He talked about how he has power and speed to be the best as he’s looking to make a statement in NXT.

Oh my god, Fabian Aichner is finally here in NXT! Mark out moment! For those who forgot or don’t know, Fabian Aichner was a part of the Cruiserweight Classic last year and he had an impressive showing. It seems like he’s finally signed to the company and I’m very happy for him. Let’s see him in action!

Kassius Ohno Vs. Fabian Aichner was an excellent match. Mark out moment! This was Fabian Aichner’s first match in NXT and he sure made a huge statement in his debut match.

Fabian Aichner did excellent in this match as he managed to showcase his skills in the ring. His springboard crossbody on Kassius Ohno to the floor was extremely impressive. The way he countered Kassius Ohno’s Lou Thesz Press with a scoop powerslam was impressive. Despite missing, he hit a beautiful double jump springboard moonsault. Excellent performance from Fabian Aichner here.

Kassius Ohno did excellent in this match as well as he showed why he’s a veteran in the wrestling business. His kicks to Fabian Aichner looked devastating and I was surprised how much offense Fabian Aichner gave him so that was nice of Kassius Ohno to showcase Fabian Aichner’s skills. Excellent work from Kassius Ohno here.

The ending of the match came when Kassius Ohno hit a Cyclone Kick (Discus big boot) on Fabian Aichner for the pin and win. A good win for Kassius Ohno as he’s looking to continue to pick up wins in NXT. Even though Fabian Aichner lost this match, he looked great in defeat so no shame in losing here. When you see Kassius coming, you say Ohno!

Excellent match and I want to see what’s next for Kassius Ohno and Fabian Aichner in NXT.

The backstage interview with Drew McIntyre with Vic Joseph was good. Drew McIntyre talked about his upcoming championship match against Roderick Strong. He said that it may be his first title defense, but it won’t be his last as he knows how good Roderick Strong is, but he is better and will prove it next week.

Drew McIntyre seemed very confident about his championship match next week against Roderick Strong. We’ll see if Drew McIntyre can retain the championship. Good backstage interview here.

We then get a vignette of Kairi Sane and that she will be in the NXT Women’s Championship Fatal Four-Way match at NXT Houston. Looking forward to seeing Kairi Sane in NXT in the near future.

Eric Young Vs. Adam Cole was a great match. Adam Cole has made his in-ring debut in NXT! Mark out moment! After Undisputed Era made their entrance, Adam Cole talked about how NXT survived without the Undisputed Era as he asked the NXT Universe if they feel anything new. He then asked the audience to close their eyes to see if they feel anything. He then said that what they feel is change. He then said that they’re unbeatable, unstoppable, and undisputed as this is their era of NXT. Glad to see Adam Cole finally be able to talk as he is great on the mic. Anyway, let’s talk about the match now.

Eric Young hit a beautiful diving crossbody to the outside on Undisputed Era and SAnitY. Adam Cole was being himself here which was great as NXT let him be himself in the ring so that’s great to see. Great work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Adam Cole hit a shining wizard on Eric Young for the pin and win. A good win for Adam Cole as he got a victory in his debut match in NXT. Looking forward to seeing how the feud between SAnitY and Undisputed Era will continue.

Great match and I can’t wait to see what’s next in this feud between SAnitY and Undisputed Era.

Overall, great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we will get Drew McIntyre Vs. Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
