Ultima Lucha Tres 10/4/17 Review: Fenix’s Mask or The Moth’s Hair?

Ultima Lucha Tres on October 4, 2017 was a great show that had excellent matches and great moments throughout the show as the third season of Lucha Underground is coming to an end. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Texano, Famous B, Dante Fox, Killshot, Catrina, Ivelisse, Marty “The Moth” Martinez, Fenix, Melissa Santos, Jeremiah Crane, and Mil Muertes earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show expect the people that participated in Night 1. Well done and well produced.

The backstage segment between Ivelisse and Jeremiah Crane was great. Ivelisse was arguing with Jeremiah Crane backstage as Ivelisse was speaking to Spanish to Jeremiah Crane as he questioned what Ivelisse is saying to him. Jeremiah Crane told Ivelisse that he is in love with someone else as Ivelisse asked Jeremiah Crane who it is as he said he’s in love with Catrina and not her. Ivelisse then told Jeremiah Crane that she doesn’t need him as Jeremiah Crane called her a b*tch as she was walking out which led to Ivelisse hitting a superkick on Jeremiah Crane as he went through the locker.

Nice to see that Ivelisse is all healed up now and she looked perfectly fine here with no injuries so that’s good. Well, Jeremiah Crane finally told Ivelisse about his true love and I have a feeling he might play a role in the Ivelisse and Catrina match, but we’ll see. Great backstage segment here.

Joey Ryan Vs. PJ Black Vs. Ricky Mundo Vs. Vinny Massaro Vs. Mascarita Sagrada Vs. Argenis Vs. Mala Suerte Vs. Saltador Vs. Paul London Vs. Cortez Castro Vs. Son of Madness Vs. The Mack Vs. Pimpinela Escarlata in The Unique Opportunity Battle Royal was a fun match. This was Pimpinela Escarlata’s return to Lucha Underground after not appearing for a while so it’s cool to see him back. I’m going to break this match into parts in terms of eliminations so let’s get to it.

The first elimination came when PJ Black hit a superkick on Vinny Massaro which led to Ricky Mundo punching him as Vinny Massaro got eliminated in the match. Poor Vinny Massaro, he didn’t get to showcase himself. That’s unfortunate.

The second elimination came when The Rabbit Tribe threw Son of Madness out of the ring to eliminate him from the match. Wow, didn’t expect Son of Madness to get eliminated so early and so quickly. Poor Son of Madness, he didn’t get to showcase himself either. A shame.

The third and fourth elimination came when Cortez Castro and Joey Ryan were fighting on the apron, but Mascarita Sagrada hit a spear on both of them to eliminate them from the match. Wow, they didn’t get much to showcase here. Poor them.

The fifth elimination came when Pimpinela Escarlata pushed Paul London off the top rope to eliminate him from the match. Aw man, poor Paul London. He didn’t get to showcase much in this match either. That’s a shame.

The sixth elimination came when Pimpinela Escarlata gave a kiss to Mala Suerte as that made him go over the top rope as he eliminated from the match. Okay, that’s an interesting way to get eliminated. I will say that much.

The seventh elimination came when Mascarita Sagrada hit a hurricanrana on Saltador to eliminate him from the match. Man, the two unusual ones are getting the most eliminations in this match so far. Interesting.

The eighth and ninth elimination came when Pimpinela Escarlata tried to do the arm twist ropewalk arm drag on Argenis, but Pimpinela Escarlata ended up eliminating Argenis and himself from doing so. That felt like a botch to me and it happens so gladly, no one got hurt.

The tenth elimination came when PJ Black did a gorilla press on Mascarita Sagrada over the top rope to eliminate him from the match. Well, Mascarita Sagrada did a get a lot of eliminations in this match so he did fine for himself here.

The eleventh elimination came when The Mack hit a dropkick on PJ Black while Ricky Mundo was hugging him which led to Ricky Mundo losing his grip as he fell off to get eliminated from the match. Man, poor Ricky Mundo. He was trying to save himself, but couldn’t. He tried though.

The final elimination came when The Mack hit a stunner on PJ Black as he tossed him over the top rope to eliminate him and to win the Unique Opportunity Battle Royal. Congrats to The Mack for winning this match as he is the right man to win and despite the match being very short, it was fun for the time it had so it was worth it.

After the match, Dario Cueto came out of his office and told The Mack that he has won a unique opportunity due to winning this match. As a result, he will get a shot at the Lucha Underground Trios Championships next week, but Dario Cueto got to pick The Mack’s partners which turned out to be Killshot and Dante Fox if they are still intact after their Hell of War match.

Of course, being the man that he is, Dario Cueto would do something like this. I don’t know if The Mack has any chance of winning the Lucha Underground Trios Championships next week due to the tension between Killshot and Dante Fox as well as them being severely injured, but we’ll see.

Fun battle royal and the match between The Reptile Tribe against The Mack, Killshot, and Dante Fox for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships next week should be interesting to see.

Ivelisse Vs. Catrina was an excellent women’s match. Mark out moment! Wow, these two went out there and killed each other as this match ended up having no disqualifications so anything goes here as Catrina called out Ivelisse as she came in and started to fight. Also, Ivelisse has made her return to the temple! Mark out moment! Great to see her back and she looked fine in this match as she didn’t show any sign of injury so that’s great.

Catrina did excellent in this match as she tried to put an end to Ivelisse. Her spear to Ivelisse looked devastating and her lifting butterfly hold dropped transitioned into a guillotine drop on Ivelisse looked impressive.

Ivelisse did excellent in this match as well as she tried to get revenge on Catrina for costing her opportunities for the past two Ultima Lucha shows. The way she fought back against Catrina despite all of the punishment that Catrina did to her was incredible.

There was a spot in the match where I questioned if Ivelisse was okay or not when Catrina hit Ivelisse with three beer bottles on her head as Ivelisse was busted open after that! Mark out moment! Dang, didn’t expect Ivelisse to take those shots. That must have hurt and I’m glad she was okay from those. Ouch. Excellent work from both women here.

The ending of the match came when Ivelisse hit Catrina with a stone followed by the DDT for the pin and win. A good win for Ivelisse as she finally got her revenge on Catrina.

After the match, Jeremiah Crane came into the ring and attacked Ivelisse’s ankle with a hammer multiple times as Catrina retrieved her stone as she retreated as Jeremiah Crane stood tall over Ivelisse.

Man, I didn’t expect Jeremiah Crane to do that to Ivelisse despite what happened earlier in the show. I guess his heart fully belongs to Catrina and he will do anything to do it including taking out his former girlfriend. Poor Ivelisse, got her ankle injured again, but this time, it’s thanks to Jeremiah Crane as heel Jeremiah Crane is going to be awesome. A feud between Ivelisse and Jeremiah Crane would be interesting to see.

Excellent women’s match and great post-match as I want to see how the feud will go between Ivelisse and Jeremiah Crane.

We then get the rest of the card from Matt Striker and Vampiro as they announced the matches for the next two weeks which includes Cage Vs. Jeremiah Crane Vs. Mil Muertes in a three-way match for the Gauntlet of the Gods, Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Matanza in a steel cage match, Sexy Star Vs. Taya in a Last Luchadora Standing match, Son of Havoc Vs. Pentagon Dark in a ladder match for the Gift of the Gods Championship, and Johnny Mundo Vs. Prince Puma for the Lucha Underground Championship in a Career Vs. Title match. That continues to look like an amazing card for Ultima Lucha Tres. Can’t wait for more.

Fenix Vs. Marty “The Moth” Martinez in a Mask Vs. Hair match was excellent. Mark out moment! This feud has been building up for months now and it finally came to a head as one person will lose everything in this high stake match and they delivered.

Marty “The Moth” Martinez did excellent in this match as he tried to show Fenix’s face to the world. His overhead belly-to-belly suplex on Fenix from the top rope was impressive. Marty “The Moth” Martinez did everything it took to take down Fenix as he even used Mariposa to protect him as Fenix accidentally hit Mariposa with the somersault dive to the outside which Mariposa eventually left Marty “The Moth” Martinez on his own. The way he tried to ripped Fenix’s mask off his face got him excellent heat as he made him bleed and tried to use scissors on his head.

Fenix did excellent in this match as well as he tried to avenge everything Marty “The Moth” Martinez has done to him and Melissa Santos. His rolling jumping cutter on Marty “The Moth” Martinez on the ring apron was cool to see. His back handspring cutter on Marty “The Moth” Martinez was also impressive.

There were several points in the match where I thought it was over as both men gave everything they had in this match. There was a spot where Marty “The Moth” Martinez hit a double underhook transitioned into a Gory Special dropped into a double knee facebreaker on Fenix, but Fenix kicked out. Surprised that Fenix kicked out of that. That was impressive. There was another spot in the match where Fenix hit Marty “The Moth” Martinez with a moonsault side slam, but Marty “The Moth” Martinez managed to get his shoulders up in time. Incredible. The final spot where I thought the match was over was when Marty “The Moth” Martinez hit a running pushing stomp to the head of Fenix, but Fenix managed to kicked out of that. Wow, just wow. Excellent work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Marty “The Moth” Martinez was about to poke Fenix with the scissors more, but Melissa Santos tried to stop him and tried to talk with him to prevent him from doing further damage to Fenix. This led to Marty “The Moth” Martinez pulling Fenix into the ring as Melissa Santos fought back with a slap, a low blow, and a push where Fenix took advantage and finished off Marty “The Moth” Martinez with a springboard 450 splash for the pin and win. A great victory for Fenix as he finally got revenge as he and Melissa Santos can rejoice and as a result, Marty “The Moth” Martinez must be shaved bald.

After the match, Marty “The Moth” Martinez tried to escape from getting his head shaved as Mariposa told him to come up on top of the stairs while Melissa Santos told Marty “The Moth” Martinez to come down. This led to Mariposa hitting Marty “The Moth” Martinez with a steel chair and handcuffing him to the railings as Mariposa assisted Fenix and Melissa Santos by giving out hair cutting supplies as Melissa Santos and Fenix began to cut and shave Marty “The Moth” Martinez’s head. After they cut and shaved Marty “The Moth” Martinez’s head, Fenix and Melissa Santos hugged each other and celebrated on top of the stairs.

Wow, what a moment right there. Good overcame evil and Marty “The Moth” Martinez got what he deserved after what he has done to Melissa Santos for the past two years. A great moment for Fenix and Melissa Santos, but not a great moment for Marty “The Moth” Martinez.

Excellent Mask Vs. Hair match and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Fenix, Melissa Santos, Marty “The Moth” Martinez, and Mariposa in Lucha Underground.

Overall, great show that had excellent matches and great moments throughout the whole show. Now, comparing Ultima Lucha Tres with Ultima Lucha and Ultima Lucha Dos will come once Ultima Lucha Tres is done. Till then, we should enjoy Ultima Lucha Tres for the time being. Next week, the third part of Ultima Lucha Tres will begin and I can’t wait! It should be great. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
