NXT 10/11/17 Review: #DIY Still Haunts Johnny Wrestling

NXT on October 11, 2017 was a great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package highlighting the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston as three women would soon join Kairi Sane to compete for that championship. Nice to see the company putting a focus on the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston, it should be a lot of fun. Well produced video package here.

Nikki Cross Vs. Liv Morgan Vs. Peyton Royce in a qualifying match for the NXT Women’s Championship was great. These three women were trying to fight for a spot in the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston and they did just that.

Nikki Cross hit a nice arm trap hangman’s neckbreaker on Peyton Royce and a devastating swinging neckbreaker on Liv Morgan from the top rope. Liv Morgan hit a nice hurricanrana on Nikki Cross and a nice enzuiguri on Peyton Royce. The spot where Nikki Cross hit a powerbomb on Peyton Royce while Peyton Royce hit Liv Morgan with a superplex was a cool spot. There was a time when Billie Kay tried to interfere in the match, but Nikki Cross managed to take her out and there was a time where Undisputed Era came out with Tayanara Conti where she tried to take out Nikki Cross, but failed. Great work from all three women here.

The ending of the match came when Tayanara Conti pulled Nikki Cross out of the ring which made Nikki Cross chased her, but once she got back in the ring, Peyton Royce hit her with a spinning heel kick followed by a bridging fisherman’s suplex for the pin and win. Wow, I didn’t expect Peyton Royce the victory here as I expected Nikki Cross to win this match so good for her. Is Tayanara Conti a part of Undisputed Era or is she just following orders from them? Either way, she has gotten into some trouble with Nikki Cross and it’s not going to do her any favors. Either way, Peyton Royce will join Kairi Sane in the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston.

Great women’s match and I want to see how Nikki Cross will respond to Tayanara Conti once they meet again.

Lio Rush Vs. Velveteen Dream was a great match. Lio Rush has made his official NXT in-ring debut! Mark out moment! He was supposed to have his debut match last week, but that was ruined by Velveteen Dream which led to this match and this was a great debut for Lio Rush here.

Lio Rush hit a nice enzuiguri on Velveteen Dream which got the crowd behind him huge. He also hit a nice tornado DDT on Velveteen Dream as well. Velveteen Dream hit a well executed rolling Death Valley Driver on Lio Rush. Great work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Velveteen Dream hit a double jump diving elbow drop on Lio Rush for the pin and win. Wow, that was very innovative from Velveteen Dream there making the diving elbow drop more unique. Despite losing, Lio Rush had an impressive debut so he had nothing to be ashamed of. Also, Velveteen Dream continues to try to get the attention of Aleister Black. I don’t know if he’ll be successful or not, but if he keeps this up, it might happen.

Great match and I can’t wait to see how Aleister Black will respond to Velveteen Dream taunting him.

We then get a recap of what happened two weeks ago when Lars Sullivan defeated Oney Lorcan was about to put more punishment to him, but Danny Burch came in and made the save for Oney Lorcan as Danny Burch will face Lars Sullivan next. This is good as it shows what happened two weeks ago and it’s hyping the match which should be good so let’s get to it.

Danny Burch Vs. Lars Sullivan was a good match. After what happened two weeks ago, it led to this match as Danny Burch is out to sought revenge for Lars Sullivan.

Danny Burch got some nice strikes in this match with his European Uppercuts. Lars Sullivan hit a devastating clothesline on Danny Burch that nearly took his head off. Good work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Lars Sullivan hit Danny Burch with the waist-lift side slam on Danny Burch for the pin and win. Another win for Lars Sullivan as he continues his dominance in NXT.

Good match and I wonder who is next to face Lars Sullivan in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Drew McIntyre defeated Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship and Undisputed Era talked with Roderick Strong afterward as Roderick Strong possibly may join Undisputed Era with Drew McIntyre looking disappointed at him where Drew McIntyre will have an exclusive interview about the situation next week. This is good as it shows what happened last week and I’m intrigued on what Drew McIntyre thinks about Roderick Strong possibly joining Undisputed Era. Looking forward to it.

We then get a vignette of Street Profits as they will be in action next. Nice to see NXT really hyping up Street Profits a lot as they’re making them a big deal. Can’t wait to see them in action again.

Street Profits Vs. Damien Smith & Markos Espada was a good tag team squash match. Street Profits continue to show their personalities and characters in the ring as they’re a lot of fun to watch.

The ending of the match came when Angelo Dawkins hit Damien Smith with a pop-up spinebuster followed by a frog splash by Montez Ford for the pin and win. Another win for Street Profits as they celebrated with the crowd after the match.

Good tag team squash match and I can’t wait to see more Street Profits in NXT.

We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Ember Moon Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Sonya Deville in an NXT Women’s Championship qualifying match and SAnitY Vs. Undisputed Era. Those should be fun matches next week and I’m looking forward to them.

Johnny Gargano Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas was an excellent match. Mark out moment! This was another excellent match between the two as these two were trying to make a statement for themselves to be the top men in NXT and they delivered.

Johnny Gargano did excellent in this match as he tried to avenge his loss from NXT Brooklyn III. His suicide dive on Andrade “Cien” Almas was beautifully executed. His clothesline on Andrade “Cien” Almas looked devastating. His running throwing snake eyes followed by a running crucifix pin on Andrade “Cien” Almas looked devastating as well.

Andrade “Cien” Almas did excellent in this match as well as he tried to get another win over Johnny Gargano. His backbreaker followed by a clothesline on Johnny Gargano on the ring apron looked devastating. The way he countered Johnny Gargano’s Gargano Escape (Chickenwing over the shoulder crossface) by throwing him to the bottom turnbuckle was well done. His running double knees to the corner to the back of Johnny Gargano’s head twice looked like it killed Johnny Gargano.

There was a spot where I thought the match was over when Johnny Gargano had Andrade “Cien” Almas in the Gargano Escape, but Zelina Vega took her jacket off to reveal a #DIY shirt as it slightly distracted Johnny Gargano. However, he kept pulling leverage on the Gargano Escape on Andrade “Cien” Almas, but it was enough time for Andrade “Cien” Almas to reach the bottom rope with his foot. Once again, Zelina Vega got into the head of Johnny Gargano, but Johnny Gargano managed to not get distracted by it too much. Excellent work by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Andrade “Cien” Almas hit the Hammerlock DDT on Johnny Gargano for the pin and win. Another amazing win for Andrade “Cien” Almas as he looks to reclimb the ladder of the NXT Championship picture. Despite losing here, Johnny Gargano looked excellent in defeat, but despite not being distracted too much, #DIY still haunts Johnny Gargano. Let’s see how he rebounds after this loss.

Excellent match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Johnny Gargano and Andrade “Cien” Almas in NXT.

Overall, great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we will get Ember Moon Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Sonya Deville in an NXT Women’s Championship Qualifying match and SAnitY Vs. Undisputed Era which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
