NXT 10/25/17 Review: El Idolo is Rising Up

Published

on

NXT on October 25, 2017 was a good show that is building up NXT Houston in three weeks. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a backstage promo from William Regal and it was good. William Regal was in his office as he announced that Nikki Cross will get another chance at being in the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston as she will be in the battle royal. In addition, he also added that it will be SAnitY Vs. Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships next week as the rest of SAnitY will be banned from ringside.

Some good announcements from William Regal here as we’re set for this show and next week’s show. Good backstage promo here.

The Manliest Governors Vs. God-Gifted Athletes was a great tag team match. Yes, I have given a tag team name for Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch as I have a feeling they’re going to be a tag team from now on so that’s their tag team name for now until they get one.

The Manliest Governors were extremely impressive in their tag team debut match. Danny Burch had some vicious European uppercuts to Tino Sabbatelli and his diving front missile dropkick on Tino Sabbatelli was well executed. Oney Lorcan hit a nice running blockbuster on Tino Sabbatelli. God-Gifted Athletes were impressive in this match as they continue to get better in the ring. Tino Sabbatelli hit a devastating clothesline on Danny Burch. Riddick Moss‘ fallaway slam on Oney Lorcan to the corner looked painful as heck. Great work by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when God-Gifted Athletes hit Oney Lorcan with the running bulldog/Gory bomb combination for the pin and win. Very innovative tag team finisher from God-Gifted Athletes as they’re looking to make a name for themselves in the tag team division. Despite losing, I think The Manliest Governors did great here and I would love to see more of them as a tag team.

Great tag team match and I want to see the progression of The Manliest Governors and God-Gifted Athletes in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened two weeks ago when Peyton Royce defeated Nikki Cross and Liv Morgan to qualify for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Houston. This is good as it shows what happened two weeks ago and shows how Peyton Royce got in the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston. Not only that, it hypes up the battle royal to determine who will be in the final spot in the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston which is next so let’s talk about it.

Nikki Cross Vs. Billie Kay Vs. Candice LeRae Vs. Aliyah Vs. Santana Garrett Vs. Sarah Logan Vs. Lacey Evans Vs. Abbey Laith Vs. Zeda Vs. Rhea Ripley Vs. Dakota Kai Vs. Tayanara Conti Vs. Mercedes Martinez Vs. Sage Beckett Vs. Bianca Belair Vs. Vanessa Borne in a NXT Women’s Championship Fatal 4-Way Qualifier Battle Royal was fun. Mark out moment for Candice LeRae, Mercedes Martinez, and Santana Garrett being in this match! Didn’t expect them to be in this battle royal so nice to see them there. Hope to see them get signed. Going to be talking about this match by eliminations so let’s get to it.

The first elimination came when Nikki Cross pushed Tayanara Conti off the ropes to eliminate her from the match. Well, Nikki Cross managed to get her revenge on Tayanara Conti and it was sweet for her. However, Tayanara Conti pulled Nikki Cross out of the ring from the bottom rope and threw her into the barricade and Peyton Royce pushed Nikki Cross towards the stairs. Despite Nikki Cross not being eliminated from the match due to her going out of the ring under the bottom rope, she got herself damaged which could cost her winning this match. We’ll see how she fight back into this.

The second elimination came when Bianca Belair swung Zeda into Rhea Ripley to eliminate Rhea Ripley from the match. Well, that was a unique way to eliminate somebody. Bianca Belair showed her strength here.

The third elimination came when Bianca Belair hit a spear on Zeda to eliminate her from the match. Bianca Belair is off to a pretty good start as she already eliminated two people in this match.

The fourth elimination came when Sage Beckett threw Dakota Kai over the top rope to get her eliminated. Man, a shame that Dakota Kai didn’t get to showcase herself much. That’s a shame.

The fifth elimination came when Sage Beckett pushed Aliyah off the rope with her boot to get her eliminated. Aliyah tried to fight off against Sage Beckett, but it wasn’t enough for her, unfortunately.

The sixth elimination came when Nikki Cross threw Vanessa Borne over the top rope. Man, Nikki Cross came back in this match with a house of fire. Nice comeback from Nikki Cross here.

The seventh elimination came when Nikki Cross pulled the ropes down to make Sage Beckett go over the top rope to eliminate her from the match. Nikki Cross continues her momentum.

The eighth elimination came when Nikki Cross hit a clothesline on Santana Garrett to eliminate her from the match. Man, Santana Garrett didn’t get a chance to show her skills. That’s a shame.

The ninth elimination came when Nikki Cross threw Abbey Laith over the top rope to eliminate her from the match. Man, Abbey Laith didn’t get to showcase herself much in this match. That’s unfortunate.

The tenth elimination came when Mercedes Martinez hit a forearm smash on Sarah Logan to eliminate her from the match. Man, Sarah Logan didn’t get to showcase herself much in this match too. That’s a shame as well.

The eleventh elimination came when Candice LeRae hit a legsweep kick on Lacey Evans to make her trip and fall to the floor to eliminate her from the match. Candice LeRae is looking to pick up momentum from this elimination.

The twelfth elimination came when Bianca Belair did a Gorilla Press slam on Candice LeRae over the rope to eliminate her from the match. Man, that is the third elimination for Bianca Belair right there. She’s on a roll.

The thirteenth and fourteenth elimination came when Nikki Cross pushed Mercedes Martinez and Bianca Belair off the rope to eliminate both women from the match. Man, the exchange that Mercedes Martinez and Bianca Belair had was fun to watch. Would love to see a singles match between the two down the line.

The final elimination came when Nikki Cross threw Billie Kay over the top rope to eliminate her from the match and to win the battle royal. I expected either Billie Kay or Nikki Cross to win this battle royal and I was right so congratulations to Nikki Cross as she will join Kairi Sane, Peyton Royce, and Ember Moon at NXT Houston for the NXT Women’s Championship.

After the match, William Regal came into the ring with the NXT Women’s Championship as Nikki Cross and Peyton Royce were in the ring arguing with each other until Ember Moon and Kairi Sane came in as all four women stared at each other.

Well, it’s been official, it will be Kairi Sane Vs. Ember Moon Vs. Nikki Cross Vs. Peyton Royce for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Houston. Should be a fun match and I can’t wait to see who will be the new NXT Women’s Champion.

Fun battle royal and I can’t wait to see the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston.

The segment between Drew McIntyre and Zelina Vega outside of the Performance Center was good. Drew McIntyre came out from the Performance Center as he was being interviewed by reporters and he was about to talk to them until Zelina Vega came in. Zelina Vega asked Drew McIntyre on why Andrade “Cien” Almas hasn’t got his NXT Championship match yet as Drew McIntyre told Zelina Vega that Andrade “Cien” Almas must come to him if he wants a title match as he leaves with Zelina Vega being pissed off as she left too.

Well, Drew McIntyre told Zelina Vega multiple times that if Andrade “Cien” Almas wants a title match with Drew McIntyre, he must face him face-to-face. We’ll see if Andrade “Cien” Almas will go face-to-face with Drew McIntyre. Good segment here.

Just a reminder that Play by Marmozets is a theme for NXT Houston and it’s a good song. NXT Houston is just three weeks away and I can’t wait for the show. It should be great.

The segment between Aleister Black and Velveteen Dream was great. Originally, Aleister Black was supposed to have a match, but as he was making his entrance to the ring, Velveteen Dream appeared right behind him as he began to attack Aleister Black. Velveteen Dream then threw Aleister Black as he tied him up on the ropes as Velveteen Dream told Aleister Black to say his name as he slapped him multiple times with Aleister Black refusing to say his name. Velveteen Dream was about to hit Aleister Black once again, but Aleister Black fought back and was about to hit Velveteen Dream with the spin kick, but Velveteen Dream escaped as he grinned towards Aleister Black as he headed up the ramp.

Well, Velveteen Dream really got the attention of Aleister Black now, but it may cost his head if he continues to do so. Really hope this match between them happens at NXT Houston as I think that could be a great match. Hope it happens.

Great segment and I can’t wait to see Aleister Black and Velveteen Dream face off in the ring.

We then see Roderick Strong backstage as he is heading towards the ring getting ready for his match against Andrade “Cien” Almas. Roderick Strong is looking ready to get back on track, but can he get back on the winning track? We’ll see next.

Just a reminder that Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe) by Power Trip is a theme for NXT Houston and it’s a good song. NXT Houston is just three weeks away and I can’t wait for the show. It should be great.

We then get an announcement that next week, it will be SAnitY Vs. Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships. That should be a great tag team match, but I have a feeling something will come up in that match, but we’ll see next week.

Roderick Strong Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Before the match, Zelina Vega cut a promo by saying that Andrade “Cien” Almas has been waiting for a week to get an NXT Championship match, but hasn’t gotten one. Zelina Vega then said that the higher the mountain is being climbed, the harder it is to breathe as Roderick Strong will soon find out that Drew McIntyre can’t breathe in the rarefied air of a champion.

Zelina Vega taking some shots at Drew McIntyre in order to get what her man Andrade “Cien” Almas wants. I don’t know if Drew McIntyre will listen to Zelina Vega or not, but we’ll see how Drew McIntyre will respond. Anyway, back to the match itself.

Roderick Strong did excellent in this match as he tried to climb back up the ladder of the NXT Championship picture. His belly-to-back suplex on Andrade “Cien” Almas on the ring apron looked painful as heck. His pop-up double knee gutbuster on Andrade “Cien” Almas was beautifully executed. His jumping knee strike and his Olympic slam on Andrade “Cien” Almas was a nice combination of moves. Excellent work from Roderick Strong here.

Andrade “Cien” Almas also did excellent in this match as he looks to become the next #1 Contender for the NXT Championship. His backbreaker into a clothesline on Roderick Strong on the ring apron looked painful as heck. His counter to Roderick Strong’s Olympic slam into an arm drag and his counter to Roderick Strong’s double underhook powerbomb into a hurricanrana were well countered. Excellent work from Andrade “Cien” Almas here.

The ending of the match came when the referee was distracted by Andrade “Cien” Almas which led to Zelina Vega hitting a hurricanrana on Roderick Strong to the steel steps which led to Roderick Strong taking advantage as he hits the Hammerlock DDT on Roderick Strong for the pin and the win. A great win for Andrade “Cien” Almas as he looks to become the next #1 Contender for the NXT Championship. Tranquilo!

After the match, Zelina Vega and Andrade “Cien” Almas went to the announce booth as Zelina Vega took Mauro Ranallo‘s headset as Zelina Vega said that Andrade “Cien” Almas will meet Drew McIntyre face-to-face next week if he will show up as Andrade “Cien” Almas said that Drew McIntyre should show up and if he doesn’t, he scared of him as they left. Andrade “Cien” Almas will finally meet Drew McIntyre face-to-face. Will Drew McIntyre accept the challenge of Andrade “Cien” Almas? We’ll find out next week.

We then see Roderick Strong still in the ring after the match as he was about to leave until Undisputed Era came in the ring. Adam Cole then told Roderick Strong that he’s not a loser and that he can be a winner if he joins Undisputed Era as Bobby Fish told Roderick Strong that Adam Cole is right. Adam Cole then offered Roderick Strong an armband as Adam Cole and Bobby Fish told Roderick Strong to take it. Roderick Strong then took the armband as Undisputed Era left with Roderick Strong looking at the armband.

Roderick Strong officially has the armband now, but will he join Undisputed Era? I guess we’ll find out in the weeks to come.

Excellent match and great post-match as I can’t wait to see the confrontation between Drew McIntyre and Andrade “Cien” Almas as well as seeing if Roderick Strong will join Undisputed Era.

Overall, a good show that is building up NXT Houston in three weeks. Next week, we will get SAnitY Vs. Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
