NXT 11/1/17 Review: The Games Have Just Begun

Published

on

NXT on November 1, 2017, was a good show that is building up NXT Houston in two weeks. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a tweet from Drew McIntyre as he said that he’s looking forward to seeing Andrade “Cien” Almas. We also a tweet from William Regal as he made Drew McIntyre Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas for the NXT Championship at NXT Houston where a contract signing will happen later on the show.

This was a different way to open up the show and it’s nice that we have a NXT Championship match set for NXT Houston so I’m looking forward to that. The contract signing should be interesting to watch.

Nikki Cross Vs. Taynara Conti was a good match. After Taynara Conti costing Nikki Cross a chance to be in the NXT Women’s Championship until last week, Nikki Cross finally got her hands on Taynara Conti.

Taynara Conti did get some offense in this match by working on the arm of Nikki Cross. Nikki Cross was out for revenge on Taynara Conti as she hit a devastating inverted DDT on her. Good work from both women here.

The ending of the match came when Nikki Cross hit a swinging fisherman’s neckbreaker on Taynara Conti for the pin and win. A good win for Nikki Cross as she has momentum heading into NXT Houston.

Good match and we’ll see if Nikki Cross will win the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Houston.

We then see Paul Ellering backstage in the locker room as Authors of Pain are getting ready for their match for the NXT Tag Team Championships later on the show. Let’s see what kind of gameplan Paul Ellering has for SAnitY.

The backstage interview with Mercedes Martinez by Christy St. Cloud last week was good. Mercedes Martinez said that she is disappointed that she lost and won’t go to NXT Houston to become NXT Women’s Champion, but she said that she has won matches all over the world so she’ll get her chance. Christy St. Cloud then asked Mercedes Martinez on who will become NXT Women’s Champion at NXT Houston where Mercedes Martinez said that Ember Moon won’t win because she can’t win the big matches.

Dang, Mercedes Martinez taking shots at Ember Moon, but at the same time, she is right. Ember Moon hasn’t won the NXT Women’s Championship despite having two chances. However, she might do better this time, but we’ll see. I sense a future match between Ember Moon and Mercedes Martinez coming. Good backstage interview here.

Johnny Gargano Vs. Fabian Aichner was an excellent match. Mark out moment! These two went out there and they delivered an excellent match where both men looked strong in the process.

Johnny Gargano did excellent in this match as he tried to overcome the recent losses he has as of late. His slingshot spear and slingshot DDT on Fabian Aichner were well executed and they looked devastating. Excellent performance from Johnny Gargano here.

Fabian Aichner did excellent in this match as well as he tried to make a name for himself in NXT. His powerbomb on Johnny Gargano looked devastating and his pop-up tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on Johnny Gargano was extremely impressive. Excellent performance from Fabian Aichner here.

The ending of the match came when Johnny Gargano was about to lock Fabian Aichner with the Gargano Escape (Chickenwing over the shoulder crossface), but Fabian Aichner reversed it with an Oklahoma roll for the pin and win. Wow, what an impressive victory for Fabian Aichner as he got a victory over a former NXT Tag Team Champion. I wonder if this is the push of Fabian Aichner or Johnny Gargano continuing his losing streak. Either way, I would love to see a rematch between these two down the road.

Excellent match and I’m interested to see where Johnny Gargano and Fabian Aichner go from here.

We then see Drew McIntyre in William Regal’s office with William Regal as Drew McIntyre signed the contract and William Regal signed it as well. It seems like Andrade “Cien” Almas is the only one left to sign and it will be interesting to see how he does it.

We then get a vignette of Aleister Black as he talked about what Velveteen Dream did to him and if he wants his attention, he got it as it will be Aleister Black Vs. Velveteen Dream at NXT Houston. The match is made official and I can’t wait to see the match as I have a feeling it will be great.

The segment between Street Profits and God-Gifted Athletes earlier in the show at the parking lot was good. Street Profits were looking at God-Gifted Athletes’ car at the parking lot until God-Gifted Athletes came by and said that it’s their car. Street Profits and God-Gifted Athletes then began to discuss God-Gifted Athletes’ suits before Riddick Moss told Street Profits to walk away from the car as they did.

It seems like we may get a feud between Street Profits and God-Gifted Athletes from this which I’m down for as I think the feud between the two teams should be a lot of fun. Let’s see where they go from here. Good segment here.

The contract signing between Drew McIntyre and Andrade “Cien” Almas was great. Drew McIntyre came out with the contract in hand as he was about to head down the ring.

Before he could though, Andrade “Cien” Almas attacked him from behind as Zelina Vega watched from aside. Zelina Vega then gave Andrade “Cien” Almas the contract as he signed it. Andrade “Cien” Almas then took Zelina Vega’s gum and sticked the contract on Drew McIntyre.

Well, Andrade “Cien” Almas finally met Drew McIntyre face-to-face, but in his own way. Now, it will be Drew McIntyre Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas for the NXT Championship at NXT Houston. Should be a great match and I can’t wait for it.

Great contract signing as I’m looking forward to Drew McIntyre Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas for the NXT Championship at NXT Houston.

The segment between The Iconic Duo and Kairi Sane at the Performance Center earlier in the show was good. Peyton Royce was complaining to Billie Kay about how Nikki Cross took Billie Kay’s spot for the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston. The Iconic Duo then made fun of Kairi Sane being a pirate.

They continued that until Kairi Sane came in and got to flinch Billie Kay and salutes to her before leaving as The Iconic Duo eventually left as well. It was then announced that next week, it will be Kairi Sane Vs. Billie Kay.

Nice to see some interaction with Kairi Sane and Peyton Royce here as they will be a part of the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Houston. Not only that, it also prepared for next week’s show so that’s good. Good segment here.

SAnitY Vs. Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships was a great tag team match. The other members of SAnitY and Undisputed Era were banned from ringside.

Authors of Pain showed that despite being gone for a while, they still have the dominance in the ring. The Death Valley Driver from Rezar on Alexander Wolfe to the corner looked devastating. The Super Collider (Stereo powerbombs) on SAnitY was well executed. SAnitY showed why they are the tag team champions in this match as they fought against Authors of Pain at every point possible. The German suplex from Alexander Wolfe on Rezar was extremely impressive and the diving elbow drop on Akam from Eric Young was well executed. The belly-to-back suplex/jumping neckbreaker combination on Akam was well executed. Great work from both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Authors of Pain hit Eric Young with the Russian legsweep/clothesline combination for the pin, but gets interrupted by Undisputed Era as they attacked Authors of Pain and SAnitY in the ring. A shame that the match ended in a no contest as the match was really starting to pick up. However, it protected both men at the same time so I was fine with the finish.

As Undisputed Era beat up Authors of Pain and SAnitY in the ring, Killian Dain came into the ring and tried to fight off Undisputed Era, but Undisputed Era got the better of Killian Dain as they threw him into the ring post.

Roderick Strong then came into the ring as he told Undisputed Era to calm down as he grabbed the armband that Undisputed Era gave him and put it on.

Roderick Strong then told Undisputed Era to pick Rezar up and when Roderick Strong was about to hit Rezar, he punched Adam Cole in the face and punched Kyle O’Reilly in the face while Bobby Fish tried to go over after Roderick Strong. Authors of Pain then joined with Roderick Strong as they went after Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly.

William Regal then came out and said there will be order. He then announced at NXT Houston, it will be SAnitY Vs. Undisputed Era Vs. Roderick Strong and Authors of Pain in a three-way tag team match. He then said that it won’t be a normal three-way match as it has to be in a match so brutal that it hasn’t been in twenty years. The three teams will be in two rings and one cage as it will be SAnitY Vs. Undisputed Era Vs. Roderick Strong and Authors of Pain in War Games! Mark out moment!

Holy shoot, I did not expect that at all. War Games is back after not seeing it in WCW for twenty years! That’s insane. I think they chose the right teams for this match and I expect to the match to have chaos, pain, and it will shock the system. I can’t wait for this game and it should be awesome.

Great tag team match and excellent post-match as I can’t wait for War Games at NXT Houston.

Overall, good show that is building up NXT Houston in two weeks. Next week, we will get Kairi Sane Vs. Billie Kay which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
