NXT 11/22/17 Review: Bitter End to Johnny Wrestling

Published

on

NXT on November 22, 2017, was a great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package showing highlights of NXT War Games. This is good as it shows what happened on the show and it was an excellent show. If you haven’t already, watch the show, you won’t be disappointed.

Ruby Riot Vs. Sonya Deville was a great women’s match. As both women made their entrance into the ring, we saw highlights of their debut on the main roster as Sonya Deville made her debut on Raw by aligning herself with Paige and Mandy Rose to take out Mickie James, Sasha Banks, and Bayley while Ruby Riot made her SmackDown Live debut by aligning herself with Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan to take out Naomi, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair. Cool to see both of the women on the main roster, but I personally felt it was way too soon for them to debut on the main roster. That’s just me. Anyway, back to the match itself.

Sonya Deville showed great in-ring psychology in this match as she was trying to work on the ankle of Ruby Riot throughout the match. Her transition from the arm triangle choke into an ankle lock was well set up. Ruby Riot showed a lot of heart in this match despite getting a lot of punishment from Sonya Deville. Her going through the middle ropes to hit a double knee facebreaker on Sonya Deville and her back springboard senton on Sonya Deville were well executed. Great work by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Ruby Riot hit an overhead backflip kick on Sonya Deville for the pin and win. A good win for Ruby Riot as she gets a victory in her last match in NXT possibly before being on the main roster full-time. I feel like Ruby Riot and Sonya Deville should have stayed in NXT for at least one more year before being called up, but it is what it is and I wish them the best of luck on the main roster. We riot!

Great women’s match and I wish both luck to Ruby Riot and Sonya Deville on the main roster.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT War Games when Aleister Black defeated Velveteen Dream and Aleister Black saying Velveteen Dream’s name after the match. This is good as it shows what happened at NXT War Games and it was an excellent match. If you haven’t seen it, go watch it. It will be worth your time.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT War Games when Lars Sullivan defeated Kassius Ohno. This is good as it shows what happened at NXT War Games and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Lars Sullivan by Kayla Braxton after his match against Kassius Ohno at NXT War Games was good. Kayla Braxton was asking Lars Sullivan about his victory over Kassius Ohno and he took a while to respond until he said that he won and that he fought Kassius Ohno like a man. He then said that he told everyone in the Performance Center that he is the man to beat and his victory over Kassius Ohno was the first step towards that goal. He then said if anyone tries to stand in Lars Sullivan’s way, they will get destroyed by his hands only.

Lars Sullivan making a huge statement towards everyone in NXT to let them know that he is a dangerous man and he shouldn’t be messed with. Let’s see who will face Lars Sullivan next. Good backstage interview here.

We then see Johnny Gargano backstage as he’s warming up for his match against Pete Dunne later on the show. Johnny Gargano has been on a losing streak as of late, but let’s see if he can get back on track against Pete Dunne.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT War Games when Ember Moon won the NXT Women’s Championship and was handed the title by Asuka. This is good as it shows what happened at NXT War Games and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Ember Moon by Kayla Braxton after winning the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT War Games was good. Kayla Braxton asked how Ember Moon was feeling after winning the NXT Women’s Championship as Ember Moon said that she’s happy and that all of her hard work has paid off. Kayla Braxton then asked Ember Moon on what she’s going to do as champion as Ember Moon said that this is only the beginning for her and that it’s going to be hard to take this title away from her because she is now the champion.

Ember Moon has to be very happy for winning the NXT Women’s Championship as she truly deserves it as she worked hard during her time in SHIMMER as Athena and getting to showcase her skills in NXT, it’s been amazing for her. Congratulations Ember Moon and I can’t wait to see how you will defend the championship. Good backstage interview here.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT War Games when Andrade “Cien” Almas defeated Drew McIntyre to become the new NXT Champion as officials checked on Drew McIntyre’s condition. This is good as it shows what happened at NXT War Games and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Drew McIntyre by Kayla Braxton after losing the NXT Championship at NXT War Games was good. Kayla Braxton asked Drew McIntyre about his condition as Drew McIntyre said that he felt something tweak in his left arm after losing the match. However, he said that he’s not going to make any excuses as you’re only good as your last match. He then said that he has unfinished business with Andrade “Cien” Almas, but he has to deal with this injury first and he doesn’t know how long he will be out of action for.

It’s a shame that Drew McIntyre got an injury, but that’s what happens in professional wrestling, people get injured and that’s just the way it is. Hope to see Drew McIntyre get a speedy recovery. Good backstage interview here.

We then get a WWE.com exclusive where Street Profits were celebrating outside of the Performance Center with fans until God-Gifted Athletes came in as Tino Sabbatelli told them that they got lucky and Riddick Moss told them that they want one more match. Angelo Dawkins told God-Gifted Athletes that they will accept the challenge as they told God-Gifted Athletes to go away as the fans joined them as God-Gifted Athletes walked away. Montez Ford then told everyone that they will celebrate with no music as they began to celebrate with no music.

It seems like the feud between Street Profits and God-Gifted Athletes which is great to see as the more feuds in the tag team division, the better. Good segment here.

We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Street Profits Vs. God-Gifted Athletes and Kairi Sane Vs. Peyton Royce. Those are some interesting matches. Looking forward to seeing them next week.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT War Games when Undisputed Era defeated SAnitY and Roderick Strong & Authors of Pain in War Games. This is good as it shows what happened at NXT War Games and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

We then see SAnitY limping backstage after their War Games match at NXT War Games. Have to give a lot of credit here as they did a lot in War Games and despite losing, they looked strong in the end so no shame for them losing War Games.

The backstage promo that Adam Cole cut after War Games at NXT War Games was good. Undisputed Era was limping backstage as Bobby Fish was carrying Adam Cole as Kyle O’Reilly was holding his arm. Adam Cole said that this is their era and this is their NXT as they continue limping.

After their performance at NXT War Games, they have every right to say that this is their NXT so let’s see if they can continue that reign after NXT War Games. Good backstage promo here.

Johnny Gargano Vs. Pete Dunne for the WWE United Kingdom Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! These two men went out there and delivered an excellent match where neither man looked weak and both men looked strong after the match.

Johnny Gargano did excellent in this match to prove why he deserves to be in NXT. His suicide dive into a Tornado DDT on Pete Dunne was impressive. The way he hit a superkick on Pete Dunne with Pete Dunne not having his mouth brace on looked like it broke his jaw. Excellent work from Johnny Gargano here.

Pete Dunne did excellent in this match as well as he showed why he is the WWE United Kingdom Champion. His rolling release suplex on Johnny Gargano on the ring apron looked painful as heck. The way he countered Johnny Gargano’s slingshot spear into a forearm smash looked like it knocked out Johnny Gargano. Excellent work from Pete Dunne here.

The ending of the match came when Pete Dunne hit Johnny Gargano with Bitter End (Pumphandle lift into a reverse STO) for the pin and win. A great win for Pete Dunne as he’s still WWE United Kingdom Championship while Johnny Gargano’s losing streak continues. Bruiserweight!

Excellent match and I’m interested to see how Johnny Gargano about losing yet another match in NXT.

Overall, great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we will get Street Profits Vs. God-Gifted Athletes and Kairi Sane Vs. Peyton Royce which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
