NXT 12/6/17 Review: Wrestling Vs. Knockout

NXT on December 6, 2017, was a great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a backstage promo from William Regal and it was good. William Regal was in his office as he announced that Drew McIntyre suffered an injury at NXT War Games and will be out of action because of it. He then said that over the next few weeks, a new #1 Contender will be determined as there will be four singles matches and the winners of those matches will compete in a fatal four-way match where the winner of that match will be the new #1 Contender for the NXT Championship.

He announced that two of those singles matches will happen on this show including Killian Dain Vs. Trent Seven and Kassius Ohno Vs. A mystery opponent as Velveteen Dream was supposed to be in this match, but due to injury, he won’t be able to compete.

Nice announcements from William Regal and it’s a shame that both Drew McIntyre and Velveteen Dream are both injured at the moment. I wish them a safe recovery and the two singles matches later on the show should be good. Good backstage promo from William Regal here.

The NXT Championship celebration with Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega was good. Zelina Vega said that everyone is witnesses to the beginning of a championship reign that is the legend of Andrade “Cien” Almas.

Andrade “Cien” Almas then got on the mic and said that he told everyone that he would be NXT Champion and now he is. He then mocked about hurting Drew McIntyre at NXT War Games and then said that he is El Idolo and he will be NXT Champion forever as he talked in Spanish before celebrating in the ring a bit longer.

Andrade “Cien” Almas is getting a bit better on his English so I was impressed by that. Very happy for Andrade “Cien” Almas as he is the new NXT Champion and with Zelina Vega by his side, they will be unstoppable. Tranquilo!

Good NXT Championship celebration and I’m interested to see who will face Andrade “Cien” Almas for the NXT Championship down the road.

The interview with Lars Sullivan outside of The Performance Center was good. Lars Sullivan talked about how he will facing Roderick Strong in two weeks where Roderick Strong is a handsome man and he looks like he could be on the cover of a men’s fitness magazine. He then said that Roderick Strong has a nice family, but he doesn’t have one as all he cares about is beating Roderick Strong in order to become the next #1 Contender for the NXT Championship at NXT Philadelphia where no one is going to stop him as he is done with questions.

Lars Sullivan is looking to create destruction and pain in order to become the next NXT Champion. Even though he’s not bad on the mic, his voice seems very normal and doesn’t sound intimidating at all. He should have a manager that does most of the talking for him and only speaks once in a while similar to Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman if they can do that. Good interview here.

Trent Seven Vs. Killian Dain in a #1 Contender’s Qualifying match was good. Trent Seven won a battle royal at a live event to earn this spot and the match between the two UK guys was good.

Trent Seven got some offense in this match as he got some strikes on Killian Dain and managed to hit Seven Stars (Wrist-lock transitioned into a lariat) on Killian Dain. Killian Dain showed his impressive agility in this match as he hit a devastating running crossbody on Trent Seven and his front fireman’s carry slam followed by a running senton on Trent Seven was a nice combination. Good work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Killian Dain hit a corner slingshot splash on Trent Seven for the pin and win. A good win for Killian Dain as he moves on to the Fatal Four-way #1 Contender’s match for the NXT Championship.

Good match and Killian Dain moves on to the #1 Contender’s match.

The backstage promo from Undisputed Era was good. Adam Cole said that he told everyone that Undisputed Era would win War Games and they did. He then said that he will wrestle Aleister Black next week and in two weeks, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly will face SAnitY for the NXT Tag Team Championships. He then said that they will shock the system and will rule the system in no time.

Undisputed Era is continuing to make a name for themselves in NXT and it’s only a matter of time before they have gold around their waist. Good backstage promo here.

Ruby Riott Vs. Sonya Deville in a No Holds Barred match was excellent. Mark out moment! These two have been feuding with each other for the past few weeks and they finally finished this feud once and for all in this No Holds Barred match and it was excellent.

Ruby Riott did excellent in this match as she tried to get another victory over Sonya Deville. The way she countered Sonya Deville’s ankle lock into a modified headscissors driver into the turnbuckle was impressive. Her bottom rope suicide dive on Sonya Deville to the outside was beautifully executed. Excellent performance from Rubby Riott here.

Sonya Deville did excellent in this match as well as she tried to avenge her loss to Ruby Riott two weeks ago. The way Sonya Deville applied the ankle lock on Ruby Riott looked extremely painful. Her bicycle kick on Ruby Riott when she was on the ropes looked like it knocked her out. Excellent performance from Sonya Deville here.

The ending of the match came when Sonya Deville locked in the arm triangle choke when Ruby Riott was on the bottom rope as she passed out as Sonya Deville won the match. A great win for Sonya Deville as that was probably her best match in NXT to date and might be her last match as well as she’s moving to the main roster full-time soon. If this is really both Ruby Riott’s and Sonya Deville’s final match in NXT, then they went out with a bang and I wish them luck on the main roster.

Excellent No Holds Barred match and thanks to both Ruby Riott and Sonya Deville as I wish you girls luck on the main roster.

The segment between Ember Moon and The Iconic Duo outside of the Performance Center was good. Ember Moon was being interviewed about her title win as Ember moon said that her desire is to become the best NXT Women’s Champion in history. She then was interrupted by The Iconic Duo as Peyton Royce told her that she pin Nikki Cross to win the NXT Women’s Championship and not her. Billie Kay then told Ember Moon that they want a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.

Ember Moon then asked The Iconic Duo which one of them wants to face her for the championship as both wanted to face her as they were arguing. Ember Moon then told The Iconic Duo that they have iconic problems and leave it to them to figure out as she will see either of them next week as she left. The Iconic Duo then decided that Peyton Royce will face Ember Moon next week.

It seems like we’re going to get Ember Moon Vs. Peyton Royce next week which should be a great match. Looking forward to that. Good segment here.

We then get an announcement that in two weeks, it will be Pete Dunne Vs. Tyler Bate for the WWE United Kingdom Championship and we also got a video package of the rivalry between those two ever since the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament. Nice to see NXT making a big deal out of this match and I can’t wait to see it as it should be another classic.

We then see Kassius Ohno and William Regal talking to each other backstage as they were discussing things before Kassius Ohno left. We’ll see who Kassius Ohno face next on the show. It should be interesting.

We then get a vignette of a mysterious figure as that mysterious figure is coming soon with the two os in soon being spades. To me, there are three possibilities of who this mysterious figure can be. Axel Dieter Jr., a PROGRESS and wXw wrestler who has signed with NXT this year, Gunner, a TNA wrestler, or Shayna Baszler, Mae Young Classic competitor and she is known for spades. We’ll have to wait and see who it is, but I have a feeling, this person will make an impact once they debut.

We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Aleister Black Vs. Adam Cole in a #1 Contender Qualifying match and Ember Moon Vs. Peyton Royce for the NXT Women’s Championship. Should be great matches next week. Looking forward to them.

Kassius Ohno Vs. Johnny Gargano in a #1 Contender Qualifying match was excellent. Mark out moment! Wow, so the man that replaced Velveteen Dream in this match is none other than Johnny Gargano. Not a bad choice, but let’s see if he can make this match count.

Kassius Ohno did excellent in this match as he tried to be in the #1 Contender’s match for the NXT Championship. The way he countered Johnny Gargano’s slingshot spear by making him stuck on the ropes into an elbow smash was impressive. His elbow smash on Johnny Gargano after he slapped him looked like it killed Johnny Gargano there. His big boot to Johnny Gargano looked like it murdered Johnny Gargano.

Johnny Gargano also did excellent in this match as he tried to avenge the losses he had for the past few months. His slingshot spear and his suicide dive into a Tornado DDT on Kassius Ohno to the outside were executed perfectly.

There were certain points in the match where I thought the match was over as Kassius Ohno hit a discus big boot on Johnny Gargano managed to kick out. Man, not a lot of people kick out of the discus big boot so hands off to Johnny Gargano for surviving that. Not only that, Kassius Ohno hit a running elbow smash to the back of Johnny Gargano’s head and Johnny Gargano still managed to kick out. Wow, Johnny Gargano has a lot of heart. Have to give him that. Excellent work from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Johnny Gargano locked Kassius Ohno with Gargano Escape (Chickenwing over the shoulder crossface) and made him submit for the win. Wow, what an incredible match and what a great win for Johnny Gargano as he finally won a big match. Johnny Wrestling!

After the match, Kassius Ohno was looking upset as he walked down the ramp as Johnny Gargano told him to get back in the ring as Kassius Ohno stood on the ring apron and told Johnny Gargano to come towards him. Johnny Gargano went towards Kassius Ohno as both men did the elbow bump as Kassius Ohno left leaving Johnny Gargano to have his moment.

Nice show of sportsmanship between the two men as it was an incredible match and now, Johnny Gargano joins with Killian Dain in the #1 Contender’s Fatal Four-Way match.

Excellent match and Johnny Gargano moves on to the #1 Contender’s match.

Overall, great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we will get Aleister Black Vs. Adam Cole in a #1 Contender Qualifying match and Ember Moon Vs. Peyton Royce which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
