NXT 12/20/17 Review: UK, Fight Forever!

Published

on

NXT on December 20, 2017, was an excellent show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package of hyping up Pete Dunne Vs. Tyler Bate for the WWE United Kingdom Championship and SAnitY Vs. Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag Team Championships later on the show. This is good as it is hyping up the matches later on the show which should be amazing matches. Well produced video package here.

SAnitY Vs. Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag Team Championships was a great tag team match. Eric Young and Killian Dain were representing SAnitY in this match due to Alexander Wolfe suffering an injury at NXT War Games while Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly were representing Undisputed Era in this match.

SAnitY showed some great teamwork in this match including an assisted powerbomb on Kyle O’Reilly. Despite Adam Cole trying to interfere in the match, SAnitY had Nikki Cross to fight off Adam Cole momentarily and Eric Young hit a nice suicide dive on Adam Cole. Undisputed Era also showed some great teamwork in this match as they were trying to isolate Eric Young to prevent him from making the tag to Killian Dain. Not only that, Adam Cole threw Killian Dain to the ring-post to prevent Killian Dain from helping Eric Young. Kyle O’Reilly hit a devastating scissors stomp to the Eric Young’s head followed by an elbow smash. Great work by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Undisputed Era hit a running leg lariat/legsweep combination on Eric Young for the pin and to win the NXT Tag Team Championships! Mark out moment! A great moment for Undisputed Era as they have claimed gold in NXT after their epic War Games match at NXT War Games. They deserved it. Shock the system!

Great tag team match and congratulations to Undisputed Era being the new NXT Tag Team Champions!

We then get a vignette of Roderick Strong as he will be in action later on the show. Nice to see NXT building up Roderick Strong here as he will be facing Lars Sullivan later on the show. Should be an intriguing match.

We then get a vignette of Shayna Baszler as she’s coming to NXT soon. Looking forward to the debut of Shayna Baszler as I’m pretty sure that she’ll destroy anyone that gets in her way.

The segment between Heavy Machinery and God-Gifted Athletes outside of the Performance Center was good. Heavy Machinery was walking outside of the Performance Center as they spot a convertible parked out the back door. Otis Dozovic then went to it and was about to pick it up and moved it until God-Gifted Athletes came in to confront them. God-Gifted Athletes then made fun of Heavy Machinery for not being as great and successful as them. They then tell Heavy Machinery that maybe one day, they can afford a car just like they do. Otis Dozovic then told God-Gifted Athletes that they want to fight right now as he scared off God-Gifted Athletes as they went to their convertible and drove off.

It seems like we’re going to get ourselves another tag team feud here and this time it will be Heavy Machinery Vs. God-Gifted Athletes. Nice to see the tag team division getting more feuds and storylines and I’m down with this feud. It should be fun. Good segment here.

We then get a recap of what happened two weeks ago when Sonya Deville defeated Ruby Riott in a No Holds Barred match. This is good as it shows what happened two weeks ago and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The interview with Sonya Deville at the Performance Center was good. An interviewer was interviewing Sonya Deville on why she’s back here in NXT as she said that she’s here for the NXT Women’s Championship and she wants a match against Ember Moon for that title as she left. It was then announced that it will be Ember Moon Vs. Sonya Deville for the NXT Women’s Championship next week.

It seems like we’ll be getting one last match for Sonya Deville in NXT before she heads up to the main roster full-time as she will face Ember Moon for the NXT Women’s Championship next week. Let’s see if Sonya Deville will go out with a bang. Good interview here.

We then get a vignette of Lars Sullivan as he will be action coming up next. Nice to see NXT making Lars Sullivan a huge deal as I have a feeling that he will be a big threat in NXT.

We then get highlights of Aleister Black Vs. Adam Cole from last week as Aleister Black defeated Adam Cole to move on in the #1 Contender’s Fatal Four-Way match. This is to remind people of what happened last week and who is currently in the #1 Contender’s match. It should be a great one.

Roderick Strong Vs. Lars Sullivan in a #1 Contender Fatal Four-Way Qualifying match was excellent. Mark out moment! Lars Sullivan was doing his entrance from NXT War Games and it was cool to see. It made him look a monster. Well done NXT. Anyway, back to the match itself.

Roderick Strong did excellent in this match as he wants a shot at the NXT Championship. His superplex on Lars Sullivan was perfectly executed and his Olympic Slam on Lars Sullivan was also impressive. Excellent work by Roderick Strong here.

Lars Sullivan did excellent in this match as well as he wants to destroy everyone that gets in his way. His lariats on Roderick Strong nearly took the head off of Roderick Strong and his pop-up powerslam on Roderick Strong was executed perfectly. Excellent work by Lars Sullivan here.

The ending of the match came when Lars Sullivan hit the Freak Accident (Waist-lift side slam) on Roderick Strong for the pin and win. A great win for Lars Sullivan as he continues to make his name in NXT.

Excellent match and Lars Sullivan moves on to the #1 Contender’s Fatal Four-Way Match.

We then get a WWE.com exclusive from last week as Street Profits continue to do their own talk show as they interview fans and so forth. Like I said last week, it’s nice to see Street Profits getting their own talk show as it gives them something to do when not wrestling. Hope to see them getting a push to the NXT Tag Team Championships soon.

We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Killian Dain Vs. Johnny Gargano Vs. Aleister Black Vs. Lars Sullivan in a #1 Contender Fatal Four-Way match. Should be a fun match next week and I can’t wait to see it.

The backstage interview with Tyler Bate by Christy St. Cloud was good. Tyler Bate talked about how he defeated Pete Dunne at the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, but lost to him at NXT Chicago. However, he is now looking to get back his WWE United Kingdom Championship.

Tyler Bate knows how tough Pete Dunne is, but we’ll see if he can get back the WWE United Kingdom Championship back from Pete Dunne. Good backstage interview here.

Pete Dunne Vs. Tyler Bate for the WWE United Kingdom Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Wow, once again, these two men tore the house down as they deliver another amazing classic where either man could have won and it would have been believable.

Tyler Bate did excellent in this match as he tried to reclaim the WWE United Kingdom Championship. His springboard exploder suplex on Pete Dunne was perfectly executed. His rebound clothesline on Pete Dunne nearly took the head off of Pete Dunne.

Pete Dunne did excellent in this match as well as he tried to show the world why he is the WWE United Kingdom Champion. His suplex on Tyler Bate from the steel steps onto the floor looked painful as heck. His clothesline on Tyler Bate knocked the heck out of Tyler Bate. The counter to Tyler Bate’s diving clothesline into a forearm smash followed by a rolling vertical suplex into a one-armed sitout powerbomb ono Tyler Bate was extremely impressive.

There were several points in the match where I thought the match was over as it was extremely competitive between the two men. There was a part of the match where Pete Dunne hit Tyler Bate with the Bitter End (Pumphandle lift into a reverse STO), but Tyler Bate kicked out. Wow, this is the second time when someone has kicked out from the Bitter End and it’s the same person, Tyler Bate. Incredible.

There was another part of the match where Tyler Bate hit an over the top rope dive on Pete Dunne followed by a Tyler Driver ’97 (Sitout double underhook powerbomb), but Pete Dunne managed to kick out. Wow, this is the first time someone has kicked out of the Tyler Driver ’97. Amazing. Excellent performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Pete Dunne hit Tyler Bate with the Bitter End for the pin and to retain the WWE United Kingdom Championship. Wow, what another incredible match between these two men as they went out there and tore the house down once again. Is this their best match this year between the two? I have no idea because all three of the matches were classics in their own right. Either way, hands off to both men and they definitely delivered. Bruiserweight!

Excellent match and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the WWE UK division in 2018.

Overall, an excellent show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we will get Ember Moon Vs. Sonya Deville for the NXT Women’s Championship and Killian Dain Vs. Johnny Gargano Vs. Aleister Black Vs. Lars Sullivan in a #1 Contender Fatal Four-Way match which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
