NXT 12/27/17 Review: A Cinderella Story Comes Full Circle

Published

on

NXT on December 27, 2017, was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with Street Profits Vs. Kris Starr & Riley Apex and it was a good tag team squash match. Great to see Street Profits back in action again as they are one of the most over tag teams in NXT at the moment.

Kris Starr & Riley Apex didn’t get any offense in this match as Street Profits completely dominate them as Angelo Dawkins hit a pop-up spinebuster on Riley Apex followed by a frog splash from Montez Ford on Riley Apex for the pin and win. Another win for Street Profits as they are still undefeated.

After the match, Street Profits went up to the bleachers with the crowd as they cut a promo where they talked about how they came, they saw, and they conquered. They then called out Authors of Pain, SAnitY, and Undisputed Era because, in 2018, they are ready to take them on.

It seems like Street Profits are ready to take on the top tag teams in NXT. I don’t know if they will be successful or not, but this will be a huge test for them so let’s see if they pull out the upset. They conquer!

Good tag team squash match and let’s see how well Street Profits will do in 2018.

Ember Moon Vs. Sonya Deville for the NXT Women’s Championship was a good women’s match. After Sonya Deville making the challenge last week, this match happened and I’m pretty sure this is the last match of Sonya Deville in NXT and if so, I wish her the best of luck on the main roster.

The way Sonya Deville hit a diving single knee drop on Ember Moon while Ember Moon was holding her leg was impressive. Ember Moon hit a beautiful somersault senton from the ring apron to the outside on Sonya Deville and her forearm smashes on Sonya Deville looked lethal. Good work by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Ember Moon hit The Eclipse (Diving corkscrew stunner) on Sonya Deville for the pin and to retain the NXT Women’s Championship. A good win for Ember Moon as she is still NXT Women’s Champion.

After the match, Kairi Sane came out from the ramp as she stared at Ember Moon while swinging her telescope as she points to her as she wants a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship. Ember Moon then stared back at her as she nods her head in agreement.

Then out of nowhere, Shayna Baszler came out and locked in a rear naked choke on Kairi Sane as she tapped and passed out while referees tried to pull Shayna Baszler away! Mark out moment! Shayna Baszler then stared at Ember Moon.

Well, the debut of Shayna Baszler has finally arrived and what a big statement to make by trying to take out the Mae Young Classic winner as well as wanting a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship. Ember Moon has a lot of top challengers coming for her. Let’s see who Ember Moon will defend the NXT Women’s Championship next.

Good women’s match and great post-match as I’m intrigued by who will face Ember Moon for the NXT Women’s Championship.

The backstage promo from Paul Ellering with Authors of Pain was good. Authors of Pain were walking around backstage as Paul Ellering addressed Undisputed Era as they will not be the ones to write the next chapter for Authors of Pain as they are the law, judge, jury, and the executioner as Undisputed Era are on borrowed time.

It seems like Authors of Pain want back their NXT Tag Team Championships and currently, Undisputed Era has them. A match between Undisputed Era and Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships intrigues me. Good backstage promo here.

The backstage interview with Ember Moon by Christy St. Cloud was good. Christy St. Cloud walked up to Ember Moon backstage to discuss what happened earlier between Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler as Ember Moon responded by saying that she knows she has a target on her back, but she’s not hard to find. She then said that she’s fine to take on any of them.

Ember Moon seems very confident as she thinks she can beat Kairi Sane or Shayna Baszler if they go up against her for the NXT Women’s Championship. We’ll see who Ember Moon will defend the NXT Women’s Championship next. Good backstage interview here.

We then get a video package of William Regal’s announcement of how he would determine the new #1 Contender for the NXT Championship as highlights of the qualifying matches were shown. Nice to see NXT hyping up this match and I’m pretty excited as I will talk about that next.

We then get an announcement that next week, we will get a 2017 Year In Review and in two weeks, it will be Undisputed Era Vs. SAnitY for the NXT Tag Team Championships. I’m looking forward to the NXT Tag Team Championship rematch in two weeks. That should be good.

Killian Dain Vs. Johnny Gargano Vs. Aleister Black Vs. Lars Sullivan in a #1 Contender Fatal Four-Way match was excellent. Mark out moment! These four men went out there and tore the house down where everyone in this match got a chance to shine.

Killian Dain did excellent in this match as he’s trying to bring back gold to SAnitY by being the next #1 Contender for the NXT Championship. His suicide dive on Lars Sullivan to the outside was impressive for a man his size. His cannonball senton onto Lars Sullivan on the steel steps looked like it hurt.

Lars Sullivan did excellent in this match too as he showed his dominance inside the ring. His gorilla press slam on Johnny Gargano as he landed on Aleister Black to the outside near the announce table was cool to see. His reverse scoop powerslam on Johnny Gargano looked impactful.

Aleister Black also did excellent in this match as he showed why he has yet to be beaten in NXT. His counter to Johnny Gargano’s slingshot spear with a knee looked devastating and his middle rope springboard moonsault on Lars Sullivan was impressive. His Black Mass (Spin kick) on Lars Sullivan looked impactful and it was looking like he was going to win the match until Undisputed Era came in as Aleister Black managed to take out Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly, but not Adam Cole as Adam Cole took him out with a vertical suplex onto a knee.

Johnny Gargano did excellent in this match as well as he showed that he can win the big matches. His suicide dive on Adam Cole after Adam Cole took out Aleister Black was beautifully executed and his counter to Killian Dain’s powerbomb into a hurricanrana which made Killian Dain hit a cannonball senton on Lars Sullivan on the steel steps was cool to see.

There was a spot in the match that was completely insane as Killian Dain hit a running splash from the ramp onto Lars Sullivan through the announce table! Mark out moment! Man, I didn’t expect Killian Dain to do something like that on Lars Sullivan. That was insane. Excellent work by all four men here.

The ending of the match came when Johnny Gargano hit a slingshot DDT on Aleister Black for the pin and win. Wow, what a big win for Johnny Gargano as he was on a losing streak for a while, but for him to finally win another big match, it’s insane. Not only that, Aleister Black suffered his first loss in NXT and it’s all due to Adam Cole so I expect a feud between Aleister Black and Adam Cole happening from this. However, congratulations to Johnny Gargano as he’s heading to NXT Philadelphia to face Andrade “Cien” Almas for the NXT Championship.

Excellent fatal four-way match as Johnny Gargano will face Andrade “Cien” Almas for the NXT Championship at NXT Philadelphia.

Overall, a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. In two weeks, we will get Undisputed Era Vs. SAnitY for the NXT Tag Team Championships which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
