205 Live 1/2/18 Review: Gold…Dust!

205 Live on January 2, 2018, was a good show. 205 Live is a show where the cruiserweights take center stage as they will risk their bodies to entertain us wrestling fans. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package highlighting on what happened on Monday Night Raw when Cedric Alexander picked Goldust as his partner to take on Drew Gulak and Ariya Daivari and they defeated them. This is good as it shows what happened on Monday Night Raw. Well produced video package here.

Akira Tozawa Vs. TJP was a great match. TJP has made his return to 205 Live! Mark out moment! It’s been three months since we last saw TJP as his last appearance was against Rich Swann in that 2 Out of 3 Falls match. Great to see him back. Anyway, let’s talk about the match itself.

Despite the punishment Akira Tozawa had to go through against TJP in this match, he kept fighting back as he hit a devastating big boot and a nice suicide dive on TJP. The way TJP was working on Akira Tozawa’s arm throughout the match was great in-ring psychology. His DDT to the left arm of Akira Tozawa looked painful as heck and the way he shoved Akira Tozawa’s head on the top turnbuckle ring-post looked like it gave a concussion to Akira Tozawa. Great work by both men here.

The ending of the match came when TJP hit Detonation Killer (Fireman’s carry dropped into an overhead kick) on Akira Tozawa for the pin and win. A good win for TJP as he’s back and looks to get back on top. *Dabs*

Great match and we’ll see what TJP does after being gone for a few months.

The backstage segment between Cedric Alexander and Goldust was good. Cedric Alexander was getting ready backstage until Goldust came in and talked with Cedric Alexander. Cedric Alexander told Goldust that it was great that he had his back on Monday Night Raw, but he thought it was a one time deal since Goldust weighs more than 205 lbs. Goldust then said that it’s true, but he can be a cruiserweight if he wants to. He then told Cedric Alexander that he’s here to make him a star as he could be a future WWE Cruiserweight Champion as they left.

Now, I don’t know if this is permanent for Goldust or not, but if he’s there to help elevate Cedric Alexander, then that’s fine with me because I can see Cedric Alexander being a big star down the line and with the help of Goldust, it might happen. We’ll see. Good backstage segment here.

Hideo Itami Vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher never happened. As Gentleman Jack Gallagher was making his entrance to the ring, we saw a tweet from him as he said that he doesn’t respect Hideo Itami and he wants his rematch against him. He then cut a promo by saying that Hideo Itami is here to hurt people as he showed the footage of Hideo Itami injuring The Brian Kendrick. He then showed the footage again in slow motion as he said he will make sure that Hideo Itami will pay for his actions. Gentleman Jack Gallagher looks to avenge his friend The Brian Kendrick, but let’s see if he can do it.

As the match was about to begin, Gentleman Jack Gallagher tried to attack Hideo Itami with his umbrella, but Hideo Itami fought back and was about to hit Gentleman Jack Gallagher with a running dropkick to the corner, but Gentleman Jack Gallagher hit Hideo Itami with an umbrella along with a pipe before more referees came in as Gentleman Jack Gallagher left after dealing damage with Hideo Itami.

Man, that was a brutal beatdown from Gentleman Jack Gallagher on Hideo Itami. This feud will probably continue until The Brian Kendrick comes back from his injury.

Good segment as this continues the feud between Hideo Itami and Gentleman Jack Gallagher.

The backstage segment with The Zo Train and Goldust by Dasha Fuentes was good. Dasha Fuentes was interviewing The Zo Train about their rematch as Ariya Daivari said that they demanded a rematch against Cedric Alexander and Goldust because they didn’t expect Goldust to be Cedric Alexander’s partner as Goldust is not even a cruiserweight. Drew Gulak then said that they weren’t prepared for a man like Goldust due to his stature. Ariya Daivari then said that they are ready to win as Drew Gulak said that their victory will be for Enzo Amore.

As Drew Gulak was about to continue, Goldust came in and said his name and his shtick before Drew Gulak did the same to Goldust before leaving with Ariya Daivari as Goldust told Drew Gulak that his breath stinks.

Well, that ending was kind of funny. The Zo Train is looking to make Enzo Amore proud as he’s recovering from illness. We’ll see how it goes. Good backstage segment here.

Cedric Alexander & Goldust Vs. Drew Gulak & Ariya Daivari was a good tag team match. Goldust has made an appearance on 205 Live! Mark out moment! I know, very late for the party, but it’s nice to see people from the other parts of the roster once in a while so we’ll see if it’s a permanent move or not. Anyway, back to the match itself.

Drew Gulak & Ariya Daivari showed some good chemistry in this match as they were trying to take down Cedric Alexander & Goldust. The way Ariya Daivari threw Cedric Alexander off the top rope as he landed on the top turnbuckle looked like it killed Cedric Alexander. The teamwork that Cedric Alexander and Goldust showed in this match was good as Goldust is trying to help Cedric Alexander get to that next level. The assisted somersault dive from Cedric Alexander with Goldust pulling down the ropes on Drew Gulak and Ariya Daivari was beautifully executed. Good work by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Cedric Alexander hit a Lumbar Check (Belly-to-back suplex into a double knee backbreaker) on Drew Gulak for the pin and win. A good win for Cedric Alexander and Goldust as Cedric Alexander looks to become the next WWE Cruiserweight Champion.

Good tag team match and I can’t wait to see if Cedric Alexander can become the next WWE Cruiserweight Champion.

Overall, good show for the fifty-eighth episode of 205 Live. It’s great to see the cruiserweights with more focus and attention here and it’s only going to get better from here. Looking forward to it.
