Bayley NXT Plans, Hideo Itami Return, American Alpha Call Up

– On this week’s episode of NXT, William Regal announced that he had planned for Bayley to challenge Asuka for the NXT Championship but she would be replaced because she is not yet ready to compete. Nia Jax defeated Alexa Bliss and Carmela to become the number 1 contender and she will challenge Asuka in a couple of weeks. The announcers did mention that Bayley will eventually get her shot because of the rematch clause in her contract. WWE is grooming Bayley for an NXT title shot at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn. They are doing a slow build with her with the idea being that she’s not the same Bayley as she used to be and the fire is not there anymore because she’s lost matches to Asuka (in Dallas) and to Nia Jax (on last week’s NXT).

Bayley has wrestled on the last 8 out of 10 NXT Takeover specials but it’s looking like she will not be wrestling on the next one in two weeks. One of the big hooks for the match in August will be that Bayley will have the opportunity to become the first 2-time NXT Women’s Champion.

– Hideo Itami will be coming back within the next few weeks, according to the latest update in the Wrestling Observer newsletter. He’s been out of action for 13 months after shoulder surgery. He was expected to be back a lot sooner but the surgery didn’t go so well so his rehab time was a lot slower than expected.

Itami has been rehabbing all over the world. He spent some time in Alabama with famed sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews at the Sports Medicine Center. He also did some rehab in Japan and he’s done some training at the Performance Center in Orlando.

– The tentative plans for Jason Jordan and Chad Gable are for them to move up to the main roster this fall. Keep in mind that those were the plans before the decision was made to go forward with the brand split so it’s possible that they can be moved up much sooner.
