Following tonight’s edition of Tuesday Night SmackdownLIVE, WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose officially has his opponent for Backlash. A singles main event between AJ Styles and Dolph Ziggler took place to determine what match takes place at Backlash. Would Ziggler win, the match would be a triple threat involving himself, Styles and Ambrose; would Styles win and the match remains a singles match between himself and Dean Ambrose.

In tonight’s Smackdown LIVE main event, AJ Styles defeated Dolph Ziggler. In defeating Dolph Ziggler, Styles and Ambrose will go toe-to-toe in a singles match for Smackdown LIVE’s top gold. This match will join the Women’s Six-Pack Challenge for the newly minted Smackdown Women’s Championship and the Smackdown Tag Team Championship match (whose contenders will be determined in the following weeks).

The Smackdown LIVE *Exclusive* WWE Backlash takes place on September 11th.
