The Mae Young Classic on October 10, 2018, was a great show. Mae Young Classic will showcase 32 women’s wrestlers from around the world compete in a single elimination tournament in order to become the best women’s wrestler in the world. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package showing highlights of the first second-round matches of the Mae Young Classic as well as hyping up Zeuxis Vs. Io Shirai, Deonna Purrazzo Vs. Xia Li, Nicole Matthews Vs. Tegan Nox, and Kaitlyn Vs. Mia Yim. This is good as it’s highlighting the first second-round matches in this year’s Mae Young Classic and hyping up the last four second-round matches which should be great. Well produced video package here.

We then get a vignette about Io Shirai and Zeuxis and it was good. Io Shirai talked about how she is here in the Mae Young Classic to make a name for herself. Zeuxis said that she is here to make a mark in wrestling and she’s quick and strong to put her opponents away.

Both women are looking to make a name for themselves, but only one can move on to the quarter-finals. We’ll see who that woman is.

We then see Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke in the crowd! Mark out moment for all three! Nice to see three-fourths of the MMA Four Horsewomen here as they’re looking at the competition of the Mae Young Classic.

Zeuxis Vs. Io Shirai was a great match. As both women were making their entrances to the ring, we see highlights of their first-round matches. Before the match, both women shook hands and then both women got close to each other before they fought. Interesting handshake there as there was a bit of tension between them so we’ll see how that plays out with their match against each other.

Zeuxis got to show her lucha libre and strong style inside the ring. Her forearm smash followed by a running front dropkick on Io Shirai to the floor looked like it hurt Io Shirai’s shoulder there. Io Shirai got to show her strong style and high-flying in this match as she showed why she is the genius of the sky. Her running double knees to the back of Zeuxis’ head looked devastating. Great work by both women here.

Io Shirai wins this match with a moonsault and after the match, the referee raised both Zeuxis’ and Io Shirai’s hand as he raises Io Shirai’s hand and declares her the winner.

Great match and with that, Io Shirai moves on to the quarter-finals of the Mae Young Classic.

We then get a vignette about Deonna Purrazzo and Xia Li and it was good. Deonna Purrazzo talked about how she’s happy to be in the Mae Young Classic as she gets to show the world what she can do. Xia Li talked about how she has worked hard to get where she is today and she will show the world that she belongs here.

Deonna Purrazzo said that Xia Li has a good martial arts background, but despite that, she plans to make her submit. Xia Li said that she will bring the heat to Deonna Purrazzo as Deonna Purrazzo said that she plans to move on to the quarter-finals.

Both women are looking to move on to the quarter-finals, but only one woman can move on. Let’s see who that woman is.

We then see Ricochet in the crowd! Mark out moment! Nice to see Ricochet here as he’s also eyeing the talent of the Mae Young Classic.

Deonna Purrazzo Vs. Xia Li was a great match. As both women made their entrance to the ring, we see highlights of their first-round matches. Before the match, both women shook hands and Xia Li bow to Deonna Purrazzo afterward. The sign of respect from Xia Li to Deonna Purrazzo which is nice to see.

Xia Li got to showcase her martial arts in this match. Her diving heel kick on Deonna Purrazzo was well executed. Deonna Purrazzo got to show her technical ability in this match. The way she was working on the arm of Xia Li was good in-ring psychology. Good work by both women here.

Deonna Purrazzo wins this match by countering Xia Li’s diving double axe handle into a scissored armbar and after the match, the referee raised both Deonna Purrazzo’s and Xia Li’s hand as she raises Deonna Purrazzo’s hand and declares her the winner.

Great match and with that, Deonna Purrazzo moves on to the quarter-finals of the Mae Young Classic to face Io Shirai which should be an excellent match.

We then get a vignette about Nicole Matthews and Tegan Nox and it was good. Nicole Matthews talked about how she doesn’t care if she hurts her opponents in the ring because she will do whatever it takes to get the win. Tegan Nox talked about how she’s very versatile in the ring and that she is the shiniest wizard in wrestling.

Nicole Matthews said that if people saw her wrestle before, they know what she’s capable of. Tegan Nox said that Nicole Matthews hits hard, but she will learn that the shiniest wizard will blind her. Nicole Matthews said that Tegan Nox is talented, but she’s just another girl for her as Tegan Nox said that she plans to beat Nicole Matthews to move on to win the Mae Young Classic.

Both women are looking to move on, but only one can so let’s see who moves on to the quarter-finals.

Nicole Matthews Vs. Tegan Nox was a good match. As both women made their entrances to the ring, we see highlights of their first-round matches. Before the match, both women shook hands.

Nicole Matthews got to show her aggressive style in the ring. The way she countered Tegan Nox’s suicide dive into a forearm smash was well done. Tegan Nox got to show why she is the shiniest wizard in wrestling today. Her running cannonball on Nicole Matthews to the corner was well executed. Good work by both women here.

Tegan Nox wins this match with a shining wizard and after the match, the referee raised both Nicole Matthews’ and Tegan Nox’s hand as he raises Tegan Nox and declares her the winner.

Good match and with that, Tegan Nox moves on to the quarter-finals of the Mae Young Classic to face Rhea Ripley which should be an interesting match.

We then see Mia Yim and Kaitlyn warming up backstage as they get ready for their match coming up next. Both women are looking ready so let’s see who wins this one.

We then get a vignette about Kaitlyn and Mia Yim and it was good. Kaitlyn talked about how she was here in WWE before and that she’s back and looking to make a name for herself in wrestling once again. Mia Yim talked about how she looked up to Kaitlyn and respect her, but she hasn’t faced anyone like her in the ring.

Kaitlyn said that she’s looking forward to facing Mia Yim as she loves a challenge and she thinks it will be a great contest. Mia Yim said that she plans to beat Kaitlyn and move on to win the Mae Young Classic.

Both women are looking ready to face each other in the ring, but only one woman can move on to the quarter-finals. Let’s see who comes out victorious.

Mia Yim Vs. Kaitlyn was an excellent match. Mark out moment! As both women were making their entrance to the ring, we see highlights of their first-round matches. Before the match, Kaitlyn extended her hand towards Mia Yim as Mia Yim was hesitant to shake it before shaking hands with her and letting go quickly. Interesting that Mia Yim did that, but probably because she was still suffering pain from her right hand against Allysin Kay which makes sense if that’s the case.

Kaitlyn showed that despite being out of action for so long, she still has it inside the ring. Her armbar on Mia Yim looked painful as heck as it looked like she was about to rip her hand off of her arm.

Mia Yim showed that her new attitude in the ring will get her far in wrestling. The way she was working on the leg of Kaitlyn was excellent in-ring psychology as she hit vicious kicks and a DDT on the leg of Kaitlyn.

There was a point in the match where I thought it was over as I thought Kaitlyn got the win over Kaitlyn as she hit Mia Yim with a spear, but Mia Yim managed to kick out. Wow, really thought it was over there, but Mia Yim managed to survive. Excellent work by both women here.

Mia Yim wins this match with a kneebar, and after the match, the referee raised both Mia Yim’s and Kaitlyn’s hand as she raised Mia Yim’s hand and declares her the winner as both women hugged each other afterward. What great sportsmanship there and despite Kaitlyn losing, she showed that she still has it in the ring so props to her.

Excellent match and with that, Mia Yim moves on to the quarter-finals to face Toni Storm which should be an excellent match.

Overall, great show for the sixth show of the Mae Young Classic. Next week, we will have the quarter-final matches which should be great. Looking forward to next week’s show, it should be awesome.
