NXT 10/24/18 Review: He’s Coming and He’s Here

NXT on October 24, 2018, was a great show that is building up NXT War Games II in three weeks. Let’s break it down:

Now, before I talk about the show itself, the commentary team for this show consists of Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson. Vic Joseph has come back to NXT! Mark out moment! As of now, Mauro Ranallo is handling other commitments which is why he won’t appear on NXT TV for the next few weeks, but he will be back for NXT War Games II. As for Vic Joseph, he did well back in NXT Chicago II and I’m glad to see him as the 205 Live commentary team is back and they did great as always.

We start off the show with a segment with William Regal outside of Full Sail University and it was good. William Regal was outside of Full Sail University with security as he told security that Aleister Black shouldn’t be allowed in the building until he gets to see him first as he left.

William Regal is looking to get the answer from Aleister Black on who attacked him, but we’ll see if we’ll get that answer later on the show. Good segment here.

The in-ring promo segment with Undisputed Era and EC3 was great. Undisputed Era came out to the ring as Adam Cole said that Bobby Fish is back and Undisputed Era is once again at a hundred percent. He then said that if people don’t believe him, ask the War Raiders as they demolished them last week and if anyone gets in their way, they won’t be in their way for long as he’s going to make people fear NXT. He then told the NXT Universe that this is not their NXT, it’s Undisputed Era’s NXT. Adam Cole then called out Ricochet saying that he didn’t beat him in their NXT North American Championship match with Pete Dunne as he didn’t get pin and he wants a one-on-one rematch for the championship.

As Adam Cole was about to continue, EC3 came out and told Adam Cole that he doesn’t deserve a rematch as that’s something that his yes-men won’t tell him. He then told Adam Cole that even though he didn’t get pin, he still lost the match and it doesn’t matter if Undisputed Era is at a hundred because he’s the “Top One Percent”. Adam Cole then told EC3 to shut his mouth and that he’ll make an example out of him as he wants a singles match against EC3 as EC3 accepted the match as he walked into the ring with a referee running in and the match began afterward.

Man, the interaction between EC3 and Adam Cole on the mic was entertaining to watch as I wouldn’t mind a feud between them in the future. Either way, let’s talk about the match between EC3 and Adam Cole next.

Great in-ring promo segment and let’s talk about EC3 Vs. Adam Cole!

EC3 Vs. Adam Cole was a great match. This match was made after the in-ring promo segment and it was great.

Adam Cole did great in this match as he tried to teach EC3 about respect. His superkicks on EC3 looked devastating. EC3 did great in this match as well as he tried to show the world why he is the “Top One Percent”. His sitout powerbomb on Adam Cole was well executed. Great work by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Adam Cole was about to hit EC3 with the Last Shot (Shining wizard to the back of the head), but EC3 dodged it and rolled up Adam Cole with a schoolboy for the pin and win. A good win for EC3 as he got a victory over the former NXT North American Champion.

After the match, EC3 left the ring and was about to head up the ramp, but Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly hit EC3 with a running single leg dropkick/legsweep combination as Undisputed Era began to beat him down and dragged him on top of the stage. Adam Cole then hit EC3 with Last Shot as Bobby Fish grabbed a chair and hit EC3’s leg with it as they head to the back with referees checking in on EC3’s condition.

Man, Undisputed Era weren’t kidding when they said they will take out anyone in their way and I think EC3 is one of those victims. With Bobby Fish being back, Undisputed Era is dangerous as ever and hope EC3 is okay with that assault from Bobby Fish.

Great match and great post-match as I’m interested to see what’s next for EC3 and Undisputed Era in NXT.

We then get a vignette of Mia Yim and she’ll make her in-ring return to NXT next. This is where I would mark out, but I’ll save that with her match coming up next so let’s get to it!

Just a reminder that Voices by Motionless In White will be a theme for NXT War Games II and it’s a good song. NXT War Games II is in three weeks and it should be a great show. Looking forward to it.

The segment with Nikki Cross outside of Full Sail University was good. We see the security guarding outside as Nikki Cross came by and told the security that he’s coming as she left afterward.

Well, it looks like either Aleister Black is here or the man that attacked Aleister Black has arrived. We’ll see who it is later on the show. Good segment here.

Mia Yim Vs. Aliyah was a good women’s match. Mia Yim has made her in-ring return to NXT! Mark out moment! The last time Mia Yim competed in NXT was in late 2014 where she went up against Charlotte Flair. However, she’s now back in NXT fully signed and I’m happy for her. Let’s talk about the match itself.

Aliyah did well in this match as she tried to make a name for herself in the NXT Women’s division. Her Northern Lights suplex on Mia Yim was well executed. Mia Yim did well in this match as well as she tried to make the best out of her in-ring return to NXT. Her big boot to the corner followed by a cannonball senton on Aliyah was a nice combination. Good work by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Mia Yim hit Aliyah with an inverted stomp facebreaker for the pin and win. A good win for Mia Yim as she looks to make a statement in the NXT Women’s division.

Good women’s match and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Mia Yim and Aliyah in NXT.

The backstage segment with Bianca Belair, William Regal, Cathy Kelley, and Undisputed Era was good. Bianca Belair was talking to William Regal backstage as she told William Regal that it’s not good enough as she wants her title shot as she has yet to be beaten in NXT as “EST of NXT”. William Regal then told Bianca Belair that he’ll take it to consideration as Bianca Belair walked away.

William Regal then head to his office as Cathy Kelley was waiting for him there and asked William Regal on who attacked Aleister Black as William Regal said that he has no idea yet, but he will get the answer soon once Aleister Black arrives.

As William Regal was about to continue, Undisputed Era came in as Adam Cole told William Regal that what EC3 has done to them is uncalled for and that he needs to do his job as general manager. William Regal then told Undisputed Era that they need to get their act together as it was Bobby Fish that cost War Raiders their tag team title match last week and a result, it will be War Raiders Vs. Undisputed Era where Adam Cole and Bobby Fish will represent Undisputed Era next week. Undisputed Era then left with frustration.

Well, we got ourselves a match for next week as it will be War Raiders Vs. Undisputed Era, but with Undisputed Era having different members with Adam Cole and Bobby Fish. We’ll see how that match turns out next week. Good backstage segment here.

We then see tweets from various superstars from WWE expressing their support for Roman Reigns who has once again been diagnosed with leukemia which is blood cancer as we also got a recap of Roman Reigns’ speech about him being diagnosed with leukemia on Monday Night Raw. All I have to say is, get better soon Roman Reigns and beat leukemia!

We then get a vignette of Lacey Evans and it was good. Lacey Evans talked about how she is “The Lady of NXT” and with her being a former Marine, she will show the world what a true lady is like. She then said that she is a force to be reckoned with and that she will be the face of the NXT Women’s division.

Nice to see NXT hyping up Lacey Evans as she has improved a lot since the first time she appeared in NXT and now she got something that fits her quite well and I expect big things from her in the future.

We then see Tommaso Ciampa backstage as he’s waiting for the announcement from William Regal about the NXT Championship match at NXT War Games II. Tommaso Ciampa is waiting for his next challenger and we’ll see who it is.

We then get an announcement that right after NXT, it will be Rhea Ripley Vs. Io Shirai and Toni Storm Vs. Meiko Satomura in the semi-finals of the Mae Young Classic. In addition, at WWE Evolution, it will be Kairi Sane Vs. Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship. Nice to see NXT hyping up the Mae Young Classic and WWE Evolution which should be interesting to see.

We then get a video package of the feud between Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler and it was good. Shayna Baszler talked about how it’s fitting that she’s a part of WWE Evolution as she feels like she’s a part of the evolution of women’s wrestling. Kairi Sane said that she has defeated Shayna Baszler twice before and will do it again at WWE Evolution.

Both women are looking to win at WWE Evolution, but only one can walk out as NXT Women’s Champion. We’ll see who that person is at WWE Evolution.

Justin Xavier Vs. Kassius Ohno was a good squash match. This was another squash match for Kassius Ohno as he wants respect in NXT.

Justin Xavier managed to get a little bit of offense against Kassius Ohno, but Kassius Ohno was too much for Justin Xavier as he finished Justin Xavier off with a discus elbow smash to the back of the head for the pin and win. Another win for Kassius Ohno as he looks to get respect in NXT.

After the match, Nikki Cross came out from the ramp as she told Kassius Ohno that he’s coming as she left while laughing as Kassius Ohno looked confused.

Well, it looks like he’s coming, but who is he? Is it Aleister Black? The man that attacked Aleister Black? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Just a reminder that Mariana Trench by Nina Strauss is a theme for NXT War Games II and it’s a good song. NXT War Games II is in three weeks and I can’t wait for the show. It should be great.

We then get a vignette of Matt Riddle as he will make his debut on NXT next week! Mark out moment! I have been waiting for the debut of Matt Riddle in NXT for a while now and he’s going to debut next week. Can’t wait. Bro!

The in-ring segment between William Regal, Tommaso Ciampa, Velveteen Dream, Lars Sullivan, Nikki Cross, Aleister Black, and Johnny Gargano was excellent. Mark out moment! William Regal was in the ring as he said that NXT War Games II is approaching and was about to announce the NXT Championship match at NXT War Games II until Tommaso Ciampa came out and told him to wipe off that smug face of his and announce his next opponent for the NXT Championship.

William Regal was about to say who will challenge Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship until Velveteen Dream appeared and said that the people don’t want to complain at NXT War Games II, they want to see an experience as he wants William Regal to say his name.

As William Regal once again was about to say who will challenge Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship, Lars Sullivan came out and said that the ring is his territory and Velveteen Dream should move out of the way before he gets hurt as NXT’s worst nightmare. Velveteen Dream then told Lars Sullivan that he may be the nightmare, but he’s the dream and Lars Sullivan should wear some pants. Lars Sullivan then smiled at Velveteen Dream before grabbing his throat.

Nikki Cross then came out as she said that he’s coming as we see backstage with Aleister Black attacking the security as he ran to the arena and in the ring. Lars Sullivan then went in the ring as Aleister Black hit Lars Sullivan with Black Mass (Spin kick) as he went up to William Regal and yelled at him by asking where is he as William Regal didn’t know.

As Aleister Black continues to get furious, Johnny Gargano came out and hit Aleister Black with a superkick as he said to Aleister Black that he’s right here as he stood tall over Aleister Black.

Oh my god, so it was Johnny Gargano that attacked Aleister Black. I knew he would be a suspect, but I really didn’t think that NXT would go there. However, they did it. I am kind of mixed on this as Johnny Gargano is their top babyface in NXT, but now, he’s no longer that as the crowd booed him when he attacked Aleister Black so Johnny Gargano is now a heel. It looks like NXT needs a new top babyface and I think they have one, but it’s going to be a while for that. Either way, this surprised me and I’m really interested to see where this goes.

Excellent in-ring segment and I can’t wait for next week just to see the fallout of this segment.

Overall, a great show that is building up NXT War Games II in three weeks. Next week, we will have War Raiders Vs. Undisputed Era and the debut of Matt Riddle which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
