Mae Young Classic 10/24/18 Review: Overcoming Adversity

Published

on

The Mae Young Classic on October 24, 2018, was an excellent show. Mae Young Classic will showcase 32 women’s wrestlers from around the world compete in a single elimination tournament in order to become the best women’s wrestler in the world. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package showing the quarter-finalists of the Mae Young Classic as well as hyping up Io Shirai Vs. Rhea Ripley and Toni Storm Vs. Meiko Satomura. This is good as it’s highlighting the quarter-finalists in this year’s Mae Young Classic and hyping up the semi-final matches which should be great. Well produced video package here.

We then get a vignette about Meiko Satomura and Toni Storm and it was good. Toni Storm talked about how Meiko Satomura is one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world and that beating her won’t be easy. Meiko Satomura talked about how she has faced Toni Storm once before and it ended in a draw, but this time, she’s going to beat her.

Meiko Satomura that she will beat Toni Storm to make it to the finals of the Mae Young Classic. Toni Storm said that she will beat Meiko Satomura as this is her dream.

Both women are looking to win, but it won’t be easy for either woman. We’ll see how this match goes between them.

Toni Storm Vs. Meiko Satomura was an excellent match. Mark out moment! As both women made their entrances to the ring, we see a recap of their quarter-final matches. Before the match, both women shook hands.

Meiko Satomura got to showcase her strong style in this match as she wants to make it at WWE Evolution. Her backflip kick followed by a roundhouse kick to the face was a great combination.

Toni Storm got to showcase her strong style in this match too as she wants to make her dream come true by going to the finals of the Mae Young Classic. Her big boot on Meiko Satomura was well executed. Her suicide dive from the bottom rope to the floor on Meiko Satomura was beautifully executed. Her German suplex on Meiko Satomura looked devastating.

There were several points in this match where I thought it was over as either woman could have won this match and it would have been believable. Meiko Satomura hit the Death Valley Driver on Toni Storm, but Toni Storm managed to kick out. Wow, didn’t see that coming. There was another point where Toni Storm hit Storm Zero (Double underhook sitout powerbomb) on Meiko Satomura, but Meiko Satomura managed to kick out of that. My goodness, this is why Meiko Satomura is a beast!

Finally, there was a spot where Meiko Satomura hit Scorpio Rising (Axe kick to a kneeling opponent while using their knee for leverage) on Toni Storm, but Toni Storm managed to kick out of that. How, just how?! Toni Storm has a lot of heart and she showed it here. My goodness. Excellent work by both women here.

Toni Storm wins this match and after the match, the referee raised both Toni Storm’s and Meiko Satomura’s hand as she raises Toni Storm’s hand and declares her the winner.

Toni Storm and Meiko Satomura then bowed to each other and hugged each other. Meiko Satomura then left the ring as Kairi Sane entered the ring and gave Toni Storm flowers as they hugged each other while Triple H came out from the ramp as he raised Meiko Satomura’s hand for respect.

Triple H has made an appearance on the Mae Young Classic! Mark out moment! He came out at the right time by showing respect to Meiko Satomura and my god, she deserves it. Thank you Meiko Satomura!

Sarah Schreiber then entered the ring as she interviewed Toni Storm on her win as Toni Storm said that she has defeated Meiko Satomura who is a legend in women’s wrestling as she’s living her dream. She then said that if it weren’t for the women in the back and the crowd, she wouldn’t be here where she is right now as she thanked the fans one more time before leaving the ring. Triple H then greeted her by giving her a hug and raising her hand.

I’m happy for Toni Storm as she managed to get some redemption from last year and she’s now heading to the finals of the Mae Young Classic. Congratulations to Toni Storm!

Excellent match and with that, Toni Storm moves on to the finals of the Mae Young Classic.

We then get a vignette about Io Shirai and Rhea Ripley and it was good. Io Shirai talked about how she wants to show the world why she is the best women’s wrestler in the world today as she wants to win the Mae Young Classic. Rhea Ripley said that she is here to rip people apart and if people don’t believe her, watch what she did to Tegan Nox.

Io Shirai said that she wants to go to WWE Evolution and in order to do that, she needs to beat Rhea Ripley. Rhea Ripley said that she’s going to rip Io Shirai apart.

Both women are looking to make it to the finals of the Mae Young Classic, but only one can walk out as the victor. Let’s see who will join Toni Storm in the finals of the Mae Young Classic.

Rhea Ripley Vs. Io Shirai was an excellent match. Mark out moment! As both women made their entrance to the ring, we see highlights of their quarter-final matches. Before the match, Io Shirai extended her hand towards Rhea Ripley and Rhea Ripley was hesitant to shake it and instead tap her instead. Well, it looks like Rhea Ripley has some sort of respect to Io Shirai, but not much which is fine by me as Rhea Ripley only cares about one thing and that is to win.

Rhea Ripley got to show her brawling in this match as she tried to rip Io Shirai apart. The way she was working on the ribs of Io Shirai was excellent in-ring psychology. Her superplex on Io Shirai was perfectly executed. Excellent work by Rhea Ripley here.

Io Shirai got to show her high-flying in this match as she tried to make it to WWE Evolution. Her suicide dive on Rhea Ripley to the outside was beautifully executed. Her tiger feint kick to the head of an opponent draped over the second rope on Rhea Ripley was well executed. Her front missile dropkick on Rhea Ripley looked devastating. Excellent work by Io Shirai here.

Io Shirai wins this match with a moonsault and after the match, the referee raised both Rhea Ripley’s and Io Shirai’s hand as he raises Io Shirai’s hand and declares her the winner.

Rhea Ripley then left the ring as Triple H came out from the stage as he hugged her and raised her hand in signs of sportsmanship while in the ring, Kairi Sane gave flowers to Io Shirai as they hugged each other while Kairi Sane raised her hand.

Despite Rhea Ripley losing here, she looked excellent in defeat and she has a bright future ahead of her. As for Io Shirai, I’m happy for her as she’s going to the finals of the Mae Young Classic.

Sarah Schreiber then entered the ring as she interviewed Io Shirai on her win as Io Shirai said thanks to the WWE Universe and that she will win and will be number one as she thanked the fans one more time. Io Shirai then went up the ramp as she was joined by Kairi Sane, Sara Amato, and Triple H as Triple H hugged Io Shirai and raised her hand. Toni Storm then came in as Toni Storm and Io Shirai hugged each other while Triple H raised Toni Storm’s hand while Sara Amato raised Io Shirai’s hand as they stared at each other.

Sara Amato made an appearance on the Mae Young Classic! Mark out moment! Man, I miss Sara Del Rey (Sara Amato) in the ring, but I’m very happy on what she did ever since joining WWE and NXT at the Performance Center as she really helped a lot of the women there so big props to her. The finals are set for WWE Evolution and I’m happy for both women as it should be an excellent match between Toni Storm and Io Shirai in the finals of the Mae Young Classic.

Excellent match and with that, Io Shirai moves on to the finals to face Toni Storm which should be an excellent match.

Overall, an excellent show for the eighth show of the Mae Young Classic. The finals of the Mae Young Classic will take place at WWE Evolution where I will review the finals of the Mae Young Classic. Looking forward to the finals, it should be awesome.
